2021-2022 Travel Scholarship
Theme: Global Citizenship
Finding your place in the world is as much about human connection as it is introspection. What does global citizenship mean to you? What responsibilities does it entail? How do you see it shaping your present and future? Are there ways one can become a better global citizen?
We ask that students take this opportunity to think critically about what global citizenship means to them and demonstrate their responses creatively through their submissions.
Entries for artwork, photography and writing categories are judged on creativity, originality and how the expression of the idea relates to the theme.
We have extended our 2021 contest through 2022. The postmark deadline for submission is January 31, 2022.
Winners will be sent written notification along with their ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificates. Prizes for each of the three award categories* are as follows:
- One High School+ Grand Prize: $1,000 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate
- One High School+ Runner-Up Prize: $500 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate
- One Middle School Grand Prize: $1,000 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate
- One Middle School Runner-Up Prize: $500 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate
- All teachers sponsoring a winner or runner-up will be rewarded a special $250 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate that they may give to a deserving student of their choice.
* Middle School students are offered two categories to participate in: writing or artwork/photography.

What are the artwork guidelines?
All two-dimensional media are acceptable, including paintings, drawings, collages or printed digital designs. Work should not be copied from photos, unless the student has taken the photograph personally or altered the image significantly from the photograph. Artwork may be no larger than 20 inches in any direction. We will accept either original artwork or reproductions (i.e. color photocopies or black and white copies of drawings). ACIS strongly encourages emailing or submitting color copies rather than original artwork. Entries cannot be returned.
What are the photography guidelines?
Photos should reflect a student’s own experience and imagination. Photos may be no larger than 20 inches in any direction. We will accept either color or black and white photos. Entries cannot be returned. Please include the following information about your photo: title, location, how the photo relates to the theme.
What are the writing guidelines?
Writing pieces must be typed and under one page in length. Both prose (creative and non-fiction) and poetry are acceptable; however, all entries will be judged from the same pool. Entries cannot be returned.
Will my entry be returned?
Entries become property of ACIS and cannot be returned for any reason. We understand your desire to keep original artwork, and encourage you to submit high-quality copies.
How are the entries judged?
Entries will be judged on creativity and originality in expressing an idea related to the theme. All judges’ decisions will be final.
What is a sponsoring teacher?
All students traveling on a group tour with a teacher must be sponsored by the teacher leading their ACIS tour (no assistant group leaders, please). All teachers sponsoring a winner or runner-up will be rewarded with a special $250 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate that they may give to a deserving student of their choice.
What is an ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate?
ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificates are scholarships that may be used toward any ACIS program. Winners may deduct their scholarship prize from their ACIS trip fee.
