New STEM Activity: The Mediterranean Diet
Bring international flavor to the classroom with an all new STEM activity on the Mediterranean Diet! High School Biology and Human Nutrition Teacher Carlie Frydman has created a two-part lesson plan that incorporates science with international cuisine.
Through this workshop, students will learn about the diet’s ancient origins and its positive impacts on human health. Comparing the Mediterranean model to a traditional American one, students explore ways in which they might be able to incorporate aspects of the diet into their daily lives.
Students will come away with in-depth knowledge of:
-
- The origins of the Mediterranean Diet
- What foods are included are in it and why it is known to be so healthy
- How to compare their own nutritional habits to those of a different culture
