Along the Adriatic

March 27 - April 5, 2024

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Wednesday March 27: Overnight Flight

Depart from the USA.

Day 2, Thursday March 28: Dubrovnik

Arrive in Dubrovnik, meet your ACIS Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel. Acquaint yourself with the Pearl of the Adriatic during an orientation tour later today. (D)

Day 3, Friday March 29: Dubrovnik

George Bernard Shaw once said that "those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik." This morning's guided sightseeing tour shows you highlights of the old town—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—such as the ancient city walls, the cathedral and the Rector's Palace as well as the harbor. The afternoon is free for you to explore more of Dubrovnik at your own pace. If you have time, perhaps ascend to the summit of Mount Srd by cable car for views you won't soon forget! (B,D)

Day 4, Saturday March 30: Dubrovnik

Today enjoy a full day excursion to Montenegro. Nestled between the Adriatic's Gulf of Kotor and surrounding mountains, the medieval-walled old city of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the narrow streets, cathedrals and historic squares that served as important commercial and artistic centers in the Middle Ages. Then return to Dubrovnik. (B,D)

Day 5, Sunday March 31: Split

Depart Dubrovnik and enjoy marvelous views of the Adriatic as you drive up the Dalmatian coast to Split. This city's engaging blend of ancient and modern feels simultaneously preserved and alive, with something to see around every corner. (B,D)

Day 6, Monday April 1: Split

Discover the city of Split on a guided sightseeing tour. You'll see the highlights of the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the relics of Diocletian's Palace, a palace and fort built by the retired Roman emperor in the 4th century around which the city itself has grown. The afternoon is yours to explore more at your own pace. Perhaps visit Bacvice beach to watch locals play the unique game of picigin, invented here, or hike Marjan Hill for beautiful birds-eye views of the old town and harbor. (B,D)

Day 7, Tuesday April 2: Zagreb

Depart Split this morning and journey inland to the spectacular Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe. The park's 16 terraced lakes cascade into each other through a series of waterfalls formed as travertine deposits have created natural dams over time. Wooden footbridges and pathways let you discover the crystal-clear turquoise waters of this natural wonder without disturbing the unique geology. Continue to Croatia's capital and largest city, Zagreb, for the evening. (B,D)

Day 8, Wednesday April 3: Ljubljana

Today's sightseeing tour of Zagreb with a local guide shows you highlights of both Gornji grad, (Upper Town) and Donji grad (Lower Town). Marvel at coat of arms tiled onto the colorful roof of St. Mark's Church, gaze sky-high at the twin neo-Gothic spires of Zagreb Cathedral, feel the lively buzz of Dolac Market and see the statue of Ban Jelacic in his namesake square. Then depart for Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia and a multicultural city noted for its many fine museums and medieval architecture. (B,D)

Day 9, Thursday April 4: Ljubljana

Kick off the morning with guided sightseeing of Ljubljana's most famous sights. Discover the Old Square before crossing the Dragon Bridge on the way to Market Square. See the town's most recognizable sights, the Triple Bridge, City Hall Square and the Bishop's Palace, before ending your tour with a stroll along the river. Then you’ll travel to the jaw-dropping Postojna Cave, for an informative, exploratory experience where a mini-train transports you through a complex system of passages and dramatically lit chambers, formed over the eons by the Pivka River. Return to Ljubljana for the evening. (B,D)

Day 10, Friday April 5: Departure

Depart for the USA. (B)
