Paris, Switzerland and Munich for Small Groups

March 31 - April 8, 2023

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Friday March 31: Overnight Flight

Depart from the USA.

Day 2, Saturday April 1: Paris

Your ACIS Tour Manager greets you with a Bienvenue! Begin to explore Paris, known as the “City of Light” for its role as a center of education and culture during the Enlightenment. This afternoon entrance to the Egouts is included. (D)

Day 3, Sunday April 2: Paris

Your day begins with a guided walking tour of the Latin Quarter. Situated on the left bank this is one of the oldest districts in Paris. Stroll through the streets that is home to The Sorbonne, founded in the 13th century for theological students. Then see The Pantheon the final resting place of some of the great figures of France including Hugo and Voltaire. After the tour, you may want to head to Rue Mouffetard to do some shopping. Later, breeze by the crowds with your timed entrance to the Louvre and discover the many famous masterpieces that call it home. Insightful commentary from your local guide highlights the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Venus de Milo and more as you wander through the galleries. From its beginnings as a royal fortress to its current status as the world's most visited art museum, the Louvre has long been at the center of Parisian culture and home to a collection of 35,000 works of art from around the world. The rest of the day is free to perhaps visit the Centre Pompidou or the Rodin Museum. In the evening, see the city from a totally different perspective during a boat cruise on the Seine. (B,D)

Day 4, Monday April 3: Strasbourg

Depart Paris and travel east to Reims for a walking tour that includes a visit to the incredible Cathedral, where French kings were once crowned. You will get a sense for life in a thriving French village packed with café-lined squares, busy boulevards and a beautiful center. Then continue to Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament and the cultural center of France's Alsace region, in time for in time to enjoy an authentic Alsatian dinner. (B,D)

Day 5, Tuesday April 4: Engelberg

Drive south into Switzerland and stop in Lucerne for a walking tour of the town. Take in the Altstadt (Old Town), Lion Monument and famous Chapel Bridge. Later continue to the charming Alpine resort village of Engelberg in time for dinner. (B,D)

Day 6, Wednesday April 5: Engelberg

Conquer the Alps today. This morning ascend 7,000 feet by cable car and the world's steepest cog railway to the breathtaking heights of Mount Pilatus. In the afternoon enjoy time at your own pace to take in more of the stunning mountain sights and scenery that surround this region. Later in the evening, travel up into the Alps again for a special Alpine Hut dinner along with traditional Swiss games and activities. (B,D)

Day 7, Thursday April 6: Munich

Drive to Vaduz, capital of tiny Liechtenstein, then continue to Marienbruck, a bridge high above Neuschwanstein, after getting a picture continue to Hohenschwangau, the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Munich, the capital of Bavaria, beckons this evening. (B,D)

Day 8, Friday April 7: Munich

In the morning, we head to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. This former prison camp was technically not one of the “death camps” but is still a vivid reminder of Nazi atrocities during World War II. In the afternoon, we learn more about Munich with an expertly guided sightseeing tour to take in sights like Marienplatz with its famed Glockenspiel, the bustle of the Viktualienmarkt food and flower market and the surfers on the Isar River in the Englischer Garten. Day 9, Saturday April 8: Departure

Depart for the USA.
