Snorkeling Exploration of Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Snorkeling Exploration of Hol Chan Marine Reserve

What happens when water is protected? Fish populations flourish and even beginner snorkelers can see an abundance of beauty in shallow water. Surrounded by corals and seagrass, students will love exploring Belize's oldest marine reserve with ample opportunities to see large schools of jacks, groupers, snappers and barracudas. More experienced swimmers can swim from one side of the cut to the other, experiencing shallow reef and drop offs over the steep sides of the "cut” and seagrass and sand beds in the middle of the channel. This is a marine lover’s playground.

Itinerary

This itinerary is the starting point for your tour, but it’s not set in stone. If there are days you would like to change, or specific places you’d like to go, we can work with you to create a personalized program that fits the needs of you and your students.

Day 1: Belize City

Depart from the USA. Arrive in Belize City, meet your ACIS Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel for an arrival briefing.

Day 2: Belize City

Today's excursion takes you on a boat ride down the New River, where wildlife and fauna abound. Arrive at a spectacular lagoon where the ruins of Lamanai, one of the largest Mayan sites in Belize, rise into view. Lamanai—Maya for submerged crocodile—provides a unique insight into the culture of the Maya and the biological diversity of a tropical forest.

Day 3: San Ignacio

The adventure continues as you drive toward San Ignacio. Stop for a canopy tour, where you'll get a bird's-eye perspective of life in the rainforest. Explore the river caves in the Cayo District and enjoy an opportunity to float on inflatable tubes along a subterranean river!

Day 4: San Ignacio

Today, travel on a full-day excursion to Xunantunich—Maya for Maiden of the Rock—for a guided visit. Approach the ancient city from across the Mopan River and journey to the city ruins. Be sure to take in the fantastic views of the Cayo District and Guatemala from atop the largest temple, El Castillo. Next stop is Barton Creek. Travel by canoe through these underground water caves as your spotlights illuminate an amazing array of Mayan pottery, stalactites, stalagmites and halactite formations. Return to San Ignacio tonight.

Day 5: Ambergris Caye

Visit the Belize Zoo for a unique chance to see the wild animals of Belize, including the elusive jaguar and ocelot. Journey to Burrell Boom and board a river boat for a cruise along the Olde Belize River. Travel to your resort hotel at Ambergris Caye.

Day 6: Ambergris Caye

This morning, discover the second largest barrier reef in the world! A snorkeling exploration tour at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley introduces you to a colorful new world in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. Return to Ambergris Caye in the afternoon to soak up the sun on the pristine beaches.

Day 7: Departure

Depart for the USA.
