Classroom Activity: Chocolates of the World

One of the best parts of travel? Getting to know different cultures through food!

We created an activity that allows you to create that spirit of discovery in your own classroom – without the need to catch a flight.

The Chocolates of the World Tasting Activity includes a brief historical overview of the cacao bean, and how it transformed from an Aztec ceremonial drink into a favorite sweet treat of European aristocracy. Now, chocolate is enjoyed all over the world, and each producer has a unique take on the flavor and texture.

Through this classroom exercise, students will sample chocolates from around the world including:

• Italy
• Spain
• France
• Mexico
• Costa Rica

The possibilities for discussion are wide-ranging, and can hit topics from economics to language instruction.
