Capri free visit of the island – round trip funicular tix included

IMPORTANT!

Free admission is granted to all visitors aged under 18 in all state-run museums, art galleries and archaeological sites. ALL passengers under 18 will have to provide their original passport at the entrance of the excavation, otherwise they have to purchase a full price ticket at their own expense.

Be sure everyone knows this before departure from the hotel this morning.

Entrances to Pompei are paid through Effetto voucher. The local guide will expedite the payment.

· You need a boxed breakfast on this day. Give the hotel plenty of warning. If they cannot provide this, contact the area office.

· You need cash/Equals card for round trip tickets on the Funicular

· If this is an optional excursion you will need to reimburse non-participants for dinner 15 €. If there are more than 15 non-participants, dinner will have been booked for them in Rome. Check with the area office

· Guiding regulations on Capri make it extremely difficult to lead a group around. Keep a low profile, do not display anything with an ACIS logo and use your ETOA card if necessary. Do not gather as a group around the funicular or in the Piazzetta in the village. When disembarking at the Marina Grande, ask a teacher to keep the group together somewhere out of the way while you go to buy the funicular tickets. The ticket office is situated to the right, behind the Harbourmaster’s Office, NOT at the funicular station.

05.00

Depart from Rome. Take the autostrada A2 to Naples. Make a quick stop at the autogrill San Nicola, just south of Caserta. After the tolls, continue on the A3 in the direction of Salerno and exit at Pompei Scavi.

09.00

Arrive at Pompei. Meet your guide in the Piazzale di Porta Marina Inferiore, right by the entrance of the excavations. Make sure you

have the right guide by showing your service voucher. Hand over to the local guide the Effetto voucher to pay the entrances. Toilets are just inside the entrance to the excavations.

11.00

Leave Pompei and drive to Naples/Porto. The hydrofoil leaves from Molo Beverello. Tell your driver which hydrofoil you will be returning on. Exchange your voucher for return tickets at kiosk next to the dock. Distribute outward tickets only to your group and board. The crossing takes approx 40 minutes (packed lunches can be eaten on board the hydrofoil).

On arrival at Capri, make a rendezvous with the group for 20 minutes before your scheduled hydrofoil departure back to Naples. Make sure they know which hydrofoil company they are booked on. Point out the funicular and distribute return tickets once you’ve bought them.

THINGS TO DO

(bear in mind that your time on the island is very limited)

Visit Capri town-take funicular from the marina up to piazzetta. Walk to the Giardini di Augusto for amazing views. Small entrance fee.

Visit of the Blue Grotto (boats from the Marina Grande)-this will most likely not be possible due to time constraints

Take a boat trip round the island (about an hour without the Blue Grotto)

Take the local bus to Anacapri (Villa San Michele)

Walk from the Piazzetta to Emperor Tiberius’s Villa Jovis.

Eat a caprese sandwich (Capri is its birthplace)

20 minutes before departure from Capri, meet the group on the quay, distribute the return hydrofoil tickets and board.

Upon arrival in Naples, board your bus and take the autostrada A2 towards Rome. After approx 120 km, exit at Cassino and drive up the hill to the restaurant ‘Da Mario’ for dinner (check voucher).

You will be back in Rome at around midnight.
