York Minster Visit

Ghost Walk Evening (dependent on itinerary)

Timings are tight. If you can leave Edinburgh by 7.45 it may help your day. Be sure your driver/coach company are aware of your plans.

· Discuss with group leaders what is most important for them on this day. The timings as they stand do not really allow for much shopping time in York.

· Call Ghost Walk guide to fix time at the hotel (see voucher). Ensure you know how long hotel evening meal is likely to take. Allow at least 90 mins.

· Do not check in at your York Hotel before visiting Minster, it will waste too much time. See map for drop off point in Leeman Road Coach drop off (A) or maybe you could be dropped off closer in order to save you time. Liaise with driver. Walk to Minster. Be aware that some people may require restrooms by this point. Off the north aisle of the quire.

· You could equally drive straight down the A1 from Edinburgh, but just remember that there are no services until Washington.

08.00 Depart Edinburgh

09.15 Jedburgh. (Half hour rest stop)

There are two options here 1. A good rest stop, just south of Jedburgh, is the coach park behind ‘The Last Shop in Scotland’. There are toilets here and a beautiful view of Jedburgh Abbey. Or 2. The woolen mill, on the left, as you enter the town. The latter will ensure that the group have a chance to grab a snack and use the restrooms.

Make a brief stop at the border (Carterbar). If weather is good, there is usually a piper there.

The A68 is a windy road. Warn passengers to take any motion sickness medication in advance. The A68 is roller-coaster like.

As this itinerary does not state Hadrian’s Wall you can continue down A68 until it meets the A69.

11.30 Arrive Beamish

Use your judgement with regard to timings. Beamish is a very well spread out site. Two hours minimum but 2.5 hours would probably be more practical.

Several cafes are on site. They are situated at the entrance building, in the pit village, the home farm and the Edwardian town. ATM’s are situated in the coffee shop at the entrance.

It is advisable to do your research on this site before you begin your tour.
