Pitlochry (En Route to and around the town)
The Pass of Killiekrankie
Approx. 7 miles (15 mins.) before Pitlochry is Killiekrankie, the site of a decisive battle in 1689. With a fit group it is great to walk through the woods (30 mins round trip) to see the Soldier’s Leap, where one government soldier leapt 15 feet over a ravine to escape. There is also a conservation-based visitor centre, toilets and ice-cream.
Distillery
With an adult group, you may wish to visit a distillery. There are two in/near Pitlochry which give guided tours. Edradour is no longer a free visit. £7.50 charge PP. (It is the smallest distillery and is run by just three men). A second choice is Bell’s who run the Blair Athol Distillery, £7.00 (2016) which can be redeemed against any purchase of malt whisky.
Pitlochry
This is an attractive little town with lots of good shopping and can make a good stop especially for adult groups. If only half want to see a distillery, you can split the group between shopping and the visit if they wish. Car park on right as entering the town from the north. Pay toilets.
