Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Monday May 25: Overnight Flight
Depart from the USA.
Day 2, Tuesday May 26: Sorrento
Arrive in Rome and meet your ACIS Tour Manager. Board your touring bus and drive south toward the Sorrento. Renowned for its citrus groves, the Sorrentine Peninsula separates the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno. (B,D)
Day 3, Wednesday May 27: Sorrento
This morning head to Pompeii for sightseeing with a local guide. In 79 AD, nearby Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered the city in 23 feet of ash. You will see a perfect picture of life unearthed as it was nearly 2,000 years ago. Then visit a mozzarella farm, where you'll watch farmers use traditional techniques to make mozzarella, followed by a tasting session. Magnifico! (B,D)
Day 4, Thursday May 28: Rome
Drive north to Rome, where you'll arrive in time to find lunch, perhaps around the Campo dei Fiori, a charming square surrounded by cafes and markets. Your exploration of the Eternal City begins with a walking tour that passes through the colorful Piazza Navona, one of the city's most impressive squares, on your way to the awe-inspiring, nearly 2,000-year-old Pantheon. Built to honor the Roman gods, the domed temple still serves as a Roman Catholic Church and is the burial spot of Renaissance painter Raphael. (B,D)
Day 5, Friday May 29: Rome
Discover Ancient Rome today with a visit inside the iconic and historic Colosseum with a local guide (and a line-avoiding timed reservation). Learn the many stories of this nearly 2,000-year-old Roman landmark that's considered one of the architectural wonders of the ancient world. Your ticket also includes entrance to the nearby Roman Forum, which once served as the city's political and social center. (B,D)
Day 6, Saturday May 30: Rome
Today's panoramic drive of the city is a great lesson in the many phases of Roman history. Our local expert accompanies you through the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. The best part is that these are timed entrances, meaning you'll breeze right by the long lines facing other tourists. In the afternoon explore the city at your own pace, perhaps taking in educational attractions like the historic Musei Capitolini. Cap off your exceptional Italian adventure by practicing the fine art of the evening stroll with friends with a passeggiata romana to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. (B,D)
Day 7, Sunday May 31: Florence
Board a high speed train to Florence this morning and transfer to your hotel. Later meet your local guide for a walking tour of the city including a timed entrance to the Accademia. (B,D)
Day 8, Monday June 1: Florence
Today is free for you to explore the incredible beauty of Florence at your leisure. (B,D)
Day 9, Tuesday June 2: Departure
Depart for the USA. (B)
