Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Monday March 24: Overnight Flight
Depart from the USA.
Day 2, Tuesday March 25: Paris
Your ACIS Tour Manager greets you with a Bienvenue! Begin to explore Paris, known as the “City of Light” for its role as a center of education and culture during the Enlightenment. (D)
Day 3, Wednesday March 26: Paris
Morning sightseeing shows you the city's most impressive monuments, from the magnificent Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower to the massive Les Invalides to the Gothic wonder of Notre Dame. Later, breeze by the crowds with your timed entrance to the Louvre and discover the many famous masterpieces that call it home. Insightful commentary from your local guide highlights the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Venus de Milo and more as you wander through the galleries. From its beginnings as a royal fortress to its current status as the world's most visited art museum, the Louvre has long been at the center of Parisian culture and home to a collection of 35,000 works of art from around the world. The rest of the day is free to perhaps visit the Centre Pompidou or the Rodin Museum. (B,D)
Day 4, Thursday March 27: Paris
Enjoy an excursion to Louis XIV's palace at Versailles by RER. Your visit includes the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed. After wandering about the exquisite and intensely manicured gardens on two feet, hop on two wheels and experience Versailles by bike, exploring the palace's surroundings beyond the gardens. (B,D)
Day 5, Friday March 28: Strasbourg
Depart Paris and travel east to Reims for a walking tour that includes a visit to the incredible Cathedral, where French kings were once crowned. You will get a sense for life in a thriving French village packed with café-lined squares, busy boulevards and a beautiful center. Then continue to Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament and the cultural center of France's Alsace region, in time for in time to enjoy an authentic Alsatian dinner. (B,D)
Day 6, Saturday March 29: Lucerne
Drive south into Switzerland and stop in Lucerne for a walking tour of the town. Take in the Altstadt (Old Town), Lion Monument and famous Chapel Bridge. (B,D)
Day 7, Sunday March 30: Lucerne
After a free morning depart for Engelberg. After some time to explore, enjoy views from Mount Titlis. Later in the evening, travel up into the Alps again for a special Alpine Hut dinner along with traditional Swiss games and activities before returning to Lucerne. (B,D)
Day 8, Monday March 31: Munich
Drive to Vaduz, capital of tiny Liechtenstein, for a visit. Then continue to Neuschwanstein, mad King Ludwig's fairy tale fortress that is the stuff of legends. The famous castle, with its many turrets and towers, was opened to the public in 1886 and clings to the top of the surrounding cliffs. You may want to linger in this magical place, but Munich, the capital of Bavaria, beckons this evening. (B,D)
Day 9, Tuesday April 1: Munich
In the morning, we learn more about Munich with an expertly guided sightseeing tour to take in sights like Marienplatz with its famed Glockenspiel, the bustle of the Viktualienmarkt food and flower market and the surfers on the Isar River in the Englischer Garten. In the afternoon, we head to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. This former prison camp was technically not one of the “death camps” but is still a vivid reminder of Nazi atrocities during World War II. (B,D)
Day 10, Wednesday April 2: Departure
Depart for the USA.
Optional Extensions and Extra Nights:
Further immerse yourself in the culture and wonders of La Ville Lumière with an extra night in Paris, including the services of your ACIS Tour Manager, at the beginning of your tour. (B)
