Munich by Bike

Munich by Bike

Lace up your sneakers, hop aboard a bike and explore Munich on two wheels. Pedal down historic old streets past delightful courtyards and the University buildings, explore the popular Englischer Garten park and ride along the city's river. Pick out differences in architecture between distinct neighborhoods and discover the shops and squares that residents frequent as you get off the beaten path. The specific route may vary to provide the best possible experience each time, but no matter which lively corner of Munich you discover, sightseeing by bicycle is a fun way to get close to the city's hidden gems.

Itinerary

This itinerary is the starting point for your tour, but it’s not set in stone. If there are days you would like to change, or specific places you’d like to go, we can work with you to create a personalized program that fits the needs of you and your students.

Day 1: Overnight Flight

Depart from the USA.

Day 2: Munich

Arrive in Munich, meet your ACIS Tour Manager and begin to explore this Bavarian capital and green city on the banks of the Isar River. Maybe choose one of the many excellent museums concentrated in the Kunstareal, or Art District, in the city center.

Day 3: Munich

Begin the day discovering the city's hidden gems during a Munich by bike tour of unique neighborhoods and sights off the beaten path. Pedal down historic old streets, peek into delightful courtyards, ride along the city's river and explore the popular 910-acre Englischer Garten, one of the world's largest urban public parks. In the afternoon visit BMW World, a comprehensive museum and headquarters of one of the world's most influential auto makers. This evening, we'll visit the Olympic Park to learn more about the events and history of the 1972 Olympics.

Day 4: Munich

Travel this morning out to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, a grim but compelling reminder of Nazi atrocities during World War II. Return to Munich to explore more of the city's wonders at your own pace, and be sure to check out the Marienplatz, the historic square in the heart of the city. It's home to the famous 43-bell Glockenspiel, whose colorful mechanical figures reenact prominent moments in Munich's history throughout the day. We bid our time in Munich auf Wiedersehen with a traditional German sausage dinner tonight.

Day 5: Innsbruck

Today's excursion takes you through the scenic countryside to mad King Ludwig's fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein—literally the stuff of legends (and Disney dreams). The famous castle, with its many turrets and towers, was opened to the public in 1886 and clings to the top of the surrounding cliffs. You may want to linger in this magical place, but the Wieskirche, a beautiful Rococo church in the Bavarian meadows, awaits. Then cross the Austrian border and continue to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol and a key destination for skiing and mountaineering enthusiasts.

Day 6: Lucerne

A morning walking tour of Innsbruck includes the Hofkirche in the charming Altstadt (Old Town) and the Renaissance mausoleum of Emperor Maximilian. In the afternoon, drive toward the charming lakeside town of Lucerne, stopping first in Vaduz, Liechtenstein to tick another country off your visited list.

Day 7: Lucerne

Begin your day with an optional trip on the world's steepest cog railway and by cable car up to the breathtaking heights of 7,000-foot Mount Pilatus. Otherwise, enjoy a free day to explore the picturesque streets and squares of Lucerne, including the magnificent Lion Monument and the Chapel Bridge.

Day 8: Departure

Depart for the USA.
