Warwick Castle       visit and lunch

           
  • Castle entrance is paid by vouche or via prebooked tickets.
  • Confirm visit in advance & ask about special events, closed areas of sites etc.   Check times for the Archery & other displays.
  • If no theatre in Stratford, group will see a Shakespeare play in London.

Warwick Castle

The castle has much to see and do and you should try to maximize your time here.

Set down in coach park.  Arrange time/place for departure.  Assemble group in group-holding area outside the courtyard.  Once through the turn-styles, walk group down the hill and into the main courtyard.  Point out the various exhibitions and attractions.

Currently the attractions within the castle are:

Add on tickets can be purchased, if so inclined, from Courtyard Ticket Tent.  It is best to check all these details before the beginning of your tour so that group leader can be informed. www.warwick-castle.com The dungeon ticket is timed admission. If purchasing on the day be aware there may not be slots available that suit times of your visit. Warwick website states Dungeon walk through takes 50 minutes.

Restaurants are opposite ticket desk and in the under croft – tasty but pricey.

Sandwich and BBQ stalls (burgers etc) in castle grounds during summer.

York – sightseeing with Tour Manager

Drop off at Leeman Road coach drop off. Walk to Minster. Be aware that some people may require the restroom.

The Minster

Entrance is now via West Door. Groups’ entrance, which is signed, is through left hand door, even though they have also been using the right side door. Hand in voucher at the Party Reception Desk. Entrance includes the Chapter House.  You are not allowed to guide inside the Minster. Free guided tours are available for individuals to join.  Voucher does not include entrance to Foundations, Crypt or Tower. There is no longer a charge for photo permits.  Toilets located on north side of the High Altar.

Lunch and free time.

Depending on how hungry group are, you may want to schedule lunch before the Minster visit.  If this is the case, arrange time/place to meet after lunch; in front of Minster (West Door) or by the Constantine statue at the south entrance are good places.

After the visit the group has free time to explore the city.  Arrange meeting time/place after free time to walk group to dinner.  (See voucher for location).

Museums

jorvik viking centre – Coppergate.  Book in for a group rate.

castle museum – Tower Street.  See Dick Turpin’s prison cell.

national railway museum – Leeman Road.

yorkshire museum – In Museum Gardens off Museum Street

richard iii museum – Monk Bar.  You get a chance to vote guilty or not guilty.

Other Places of Interest

Betty’s Tea Rooms – St Helen’s Square

City Art Gallery – Bootham

City Walls – 3 miles, you can walk nearly all the way round.

river cruises – York Boat, from near Lendel Bridge and King’s Snaith (check times and availability)
