This journey consists of 3 parts.
(1) San Sebastian ð Zaragoza Visit to the Pilar Basilica
Driving time: 2hr 45 min – 3hr
(2) Zaragoza ð Lleida (Lerida) Rest stop
Driving time: 1hr 30min
(3) Lleida ð Barcelona
Driving time: 1hr 45min
(plus extra time to reach the hotel – depends on city traffic)
Zaragoza visit
On arrival at Zaragoza, driver will either drop on the other side of the river at the bus park off Calle del Arquitecto la Figuera or right next to the Pilar basilica if possible. Arrange a rendezvous time with the driver. Walk the group to Plaza del Pilar and point out/explain the following:
The Pilar Basilica – Famous Marble Column and Goya Ceiling Frescoes
The Seo Cathedral
Remains of the Roman Wall
Monument to Goya (on the Plaza del Pilar)
Take the group around to the Plaza and then inside the Basilica. There is no entrance fee. Students should be dressed appropriately and must not use flash photography.
The group then have free time for lunch. Some of the group might be interested in going up the tower of the Basilica (cost approx 3€, entrance on the river side). Point out the other Cathedral ‘La Seo’ and the restaurants and cafes. Arrange a meeting point and time.
The area known as El Tubo is good for lunch, particularly around Calle de la Libertad and Calle del Cuatro de Agosto. If you are in the new town, try Calle de Francisco Vitoria. Alternatively, if it is not Sunday, your group could buy their own ingredients at the market – just next to the Roman Wall.
The Tourist Office is between the two Cathedrals.
