HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – ARRIVAL
The airport is 20 minutes from the city centre. The AeroBus runs every 20 minutes (25 mins on Sat, Sun & holidays and in the evenings – from 7pm) from Cais do Sodré railway station and Praça dos Restauradores (AeroBus1) and bus terminal Sete Rios (AeroBus2) between 08.00 and 21.00 (first buses leave airport at 8.00AM). Tickets, which can be bought on board, cost €4.00 (you can also buy online with 10% discount).
You can now also take the metro directly from the airport. It runs from 6.30 am to 1 am and follows the red subway line to the financial district of Saldanha where you can connect with other lines and bus routes. You have to byut the “7 colinas/Viva viagem” electronic card (0,50€) which can then be topped up. The price for a single ticket is currently €1.65, and for the day ticket it is 6.60€.
For navigating public transport, there is nice free app, called Citymapper, available for many major cities around Europe, including Lisbon. It has very thorough searches and tends to be more accurate than Google Maps.
HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – DEPARTURE
Check your itinerary for details of transfer. Groups departing from Lisbon on a flight that requires a connection and change of carrier in Europe may not be able to check bags through to the US. Groups in this situation will have to collect bags on arrival at the first airport and then check-in for their transatlantic flight. With this in mind, please make sure you are in Lisbon airport 3 hours before the flight is due to depart (unless the flight is leaving ridiculously early in the morning).
If groups are connecting to a transatlantic flight in Europe, please confirm with the airline the arrival terminal of the flight from Lisbon and the departure terminal for the flight to the US.
Please make Group Leaders aware of this information. The more information they have in hand (though they have certainly been given the information pre-departure in the US) the better able they are to make the transfer and re-check-in painless for the group.
