Full day excursion by hydrofoil to Capri including round trip funicular ride up to the village

· You need cash/Equals card for round trip tickets on the Funicular and (on ROM only) entrances to the Villa Jovis.

· Check your voucher for the time of your hydrofoil and plan your timing around this. Depending on the itinerary you may have a return to Naples (but going to Capri from Sorrento). In this case you will have to exchange your return voucher in Capri. Always check with the area office.

· It is a steep walk to and from the harbor in Sorrento and you are authorized to pay the bus fare (for any elderly or obviously unfit participants).

· On a sunny day, tell group to bring swimming gear, a hat and good sunscreen

· Guiding regulations on Capri make it extremely difficult to lead a group around. Keep a low profile, do not display anything with an ACIS logo and use your ETOA card if necessary. Do not gather as a group around the funicular or in the Piazzetta in the village. When disembarking at the Marina Grande, ask a teacher to keep the group together somewhere out of the way while you go to buy the funicular tickets.

Depending on the location of your hotel you will either walk or use the bus to get into town. Aim to be at the port 30mins prior to departure or you may lose your reservation. The bus will drop you off at the Correale parking lot (5 min walk from Piazza Tasso). Make a rendezvous for departure with the driver. Once in Piazza Tasso, go to the overlook where the flags are: the stairs to the harbor start here. Walk down, ask group to wait while you go exchange your voucher for round trip tickets for the hydrofoil to Capri and check your departure time from Capri to Sorrento (if returning to Naples, you will most likely only be able to exchange the Sorrento to Capri voucher, but ask if they can also print the Capri to Naples voucher to save you some time later). Distribute the outward tickets only to the group and board.

On arrival at Capri, disembark and walk to the left, all the way to the end of the dock. Ask the group to wait while you go to get the round trip funicular tickets (funicular ticket office is around the corner to the right at the end of the dock NOT at the actual funicular station, which will be right in front of you at the end of the doick). Make a rendezvous with the group for 20 minutes

before your scheduled departure. Point out the funicular which will take them up to the town of Capri. and distribute return tickets.

THINGS TO DO

Visit the Giardini di Augusto on the back side of the island. A 15-minute walk from the piazzetta, great views of the Faraglioni, the cliffs and Bay of Salerno and lovely gardens. Perfect spot for photos. Small entrance fee, well worth it!

Visit the Blue Grotto (boats from the Marina Grande, part of the round the island tour)- the grotto is EXTREMELY crowded in high season and can take up to a few hours to do. It is also not always open (dependent on water conditions).

Take a boat trip round the island (with or without the Blue Grotto)- best to pre-arrange (day before) and do this as soon as you arrive on Capri. If timing is tight, do the tour without the stop at the Blue Grotto.

Take the local bus to Anacapri (Villa San Michele) and when you get off, take the ski lift to the top of Monte Solaro for amazing views (small fee).

Walk from the Piazzetta to Emperor Tiberius’s Villa Jovis (if not included they pay).

Have a freshly-made caprese sandwich (this is their birthplace after all) from Salumeria Aldo in the port. The little deli counter in the back will make it on the spot for about €5.

On ROM, Tiberius’s Villa is included (Note. Not open in January and February, and often into March. Opening times are random at best, often closing at 13:00. Check before walking all the way up there!). Take the group up to Capri village by funicular and walk with them from the Piazzetta along the via Tiberio, which leads to the Villa Jovis, once the Emperor Tiberius’s Palace. It is a good hour’s walk on a narrow path, no cars or buses. Follow the signs, which can be a little elusive at times…Pay entrances to the excavations. Magnificent panorama of the island and a good place for a picnic (**be sure to have water and food with you, as there is nothing at the Villa).

If the group feels that the visit is going to be too strenuous, you can pay instead for the little bus to Anacapri. Take the ski lift to the top of Monte Solaro (time permitting). Get the bus either from the Port or from the top of the funicular. Alternatively, they can enjoy Capri town, which is lovely, and walk back to the Giardini di Augusto.

Meet the group again 20 minutes before your scheduled hydrofoil departure. Distribute the tickets and board with the group.
