TRANSPORT

U and S Bahn For practical purposes, there is no difference between the U and S lines. They operate from 04.00 to 01.00 daily. A trust system operates and there are few inspections. However, fare dodging should be firmly discouraged. Fine: €60.00

The fare structure was “reformed” a few years back, which in theory should make it simpler. Most changes relate to the tariff ring structure and long term tickets and should not concern you. However do note that the previous 3 day travel pass has been abolished. Almost all destinations you will visit are in Zone M (the city of Munich), with the exception of Dachau (zone 1) and Munich airport, which is in Zone 5.

Type of U/S-Bahn Ticket Cost

Up to 2 stops (Kurzstrecke) € 1.90

Over 2 stops € 4.10

10-strip Streifenkarten* €17.80

Day Ticket/Tageskarte (inner city “M” zone) €9.70

“Group” ticket ** €18.70

Airport ticket – covers unlimited travel to and

from the airport and 24 hours around Munich €16.30

*Stamp two strips per over 14 year old, one per under 14 year old (child) per trip (Kurzstrecke, one strip)

** Ideal for our groups, this is valid for up to five adults. Two 14 year olds count as one adult; so up to ten under 14 year olds can travel with a single Group Ticket.

Bus/Trams – Buy ticket from machines or stamp Streifenkarte (up to 2 stops, 1 strip, otherwise 2 strips) before boarding. Transfer to other tramlines is allowed (time limit). Day and Group tickets are valid.

Taxis – These are licensed to carry three passengers. Tip 10%
