Sightseeing with Tour Manager
Come off the autobahn A14 onto the B2. There are set down and pick up points on the Goethestrasse between the station and the opera, or perhaps more conveniently on Dittrichring just next to the St Thomas Church. However spaces are limited there in summer.
If beginning at the Goethestrasse, start your walking tour by taking the group past the University buildings to the St Nicholas church. Take them in to see the impressive interior. This is the church where the vigils were held in the lead up to the peaceful revolution of 1989.

Continue to the Alte Börse, the Alte Rathaus and the Auerbachskeller for its connection to Goethe’s Faust – for adult groups this is a good lunch recommendation. End at the church of St Thomas, where Johann Sebastian Bach was cantor for 27 years. The Bach Museum is opposite the church – they visit at the end of the tour (you need to pay if included).
Give them free time for lunch (if appropriate) and meet them again at the Goethe monument in front of the Alte Rathaus. Walk them back to the bus.
If starting at the Thomaskirche do the above in reverse, but finish at the St Nicholas Church – there is no need to go any further.
Sightseeing with Local Guide
Arrange in advance where to meet your guide. If staying in Leipzig, this will probably be the hotel. If coming from elsewhere it is likely to be at the Bach Statue outside the St Thomas Church.
The guide will probably want to spend the first part of the tour on the bus. This enables the group to see parts of the old city, some of the DDR heritage and the Battle of the Nations’ Monument, which they visit before returning to the city centre and completing the walking tour as described above for the TM-led tour.
Give free time for lunch and free time suggestions, if appropriate
