Cenote Visit and Swimming

Cenote Visit and Swimming

This isn't your typical waterpark. Students will love nature's swimming pool when they get to drive into a cenote, a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Cenotes are especially associated with the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico and were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings.

Itinerary

This itinerary is the starting point for your tour, but it’s not set in stone. If there are days you would like to change, or specific places you’d like to go, we can work with you to create a personalized program that fits the needs of you and your students.

Day 1: Mayan Riviera

Arrive in Cancun. Meet your ACIS Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel in a sunny, seaside resort town on the Mayan Riviera.

Day 2: Mayan Riviera

A morning excursion takes you to the spectacular cliff-side ruins of Tulum, where a stunning view of the Caribbean may explain why the Mayan people chose this as their home. Enjoy a free afternoon sinking your toes into the white sandy beaches of the Mayan Riviera.

Day 3: Mayan Riviera

Travel today to the incredible ruins of Chichén Itzá. Starting with a guided sightseeing tour, learn about the Maya's advanced calendar system, their extensive knowledge of astronomy and their deadly ball game. After, join locals as you stop at one of the many cenotes, or underground lakes, in the area. Learn about the geology of these naturally formed underground sinkholes and how they were sacred to the ancient Maya as you take a refreshing swim before returning to your hotel.

Day 4: Mayan Riviera

Today enjoy an excursion to the eco-archaeological theme park of Xcaret. Spend the day tubing down subterranean rivers and snorkeling in the inlets, where pink flamingos and toucans abound. Then observe a re-creation of a Mayan ball game with its religious rituals and ceremonies before returning to the Mayan Riviera.

Day 5: Mayan Riviera

Enjoy a boat trip to sleepy tropical Isla Mujeres, the "Isle of Women". Take your time exploring the vibrant downtown of this 5-mile-long island before returning to your hotel.

Day 6: Mayan Riviera

Spend the day relaxing on the Caribbean Coast. You’ll have time to enjoy the beach or browse for souvenirs in the nearby shops before celebrating your final evening in Mexico tonight.

Day 7: Departure

Depart for the USA.

Note: The Mexican authorities require a letter of permission from legal guardians for travel of minors to Mexico. Please speak to your ACIS Tour Consultant for more details.
