Arrive in Dar es Salaam, a fishing village that’s grown into a vibrant multicultural port and metropolis on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast. Meet your ACIS Tour Manager, transfer to your hotel, and get settled before tonight’s dinner.
Transfer to the railway station this morning and board the sleek, modern express train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, where you will begin your “Nurturing Minds” experience with SEGA Girls’ School. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation at the SEGA Visitor House—a unique, comfortable lodge that will allow for maximum immersion with the school community during your stay. All meals are included while at SEGA. After settling in, there will be a welcome orientation and introduction to SEGA ( Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement), its child protection policies, and a security briefing. You will have the opportunity to meet the students over lunch, followed by a school tour that includes a welcome song and a meeting with the Headmistress. Later, join SEGA students for club activities, followed by dinner.
Begin your day with a guided sightseeing tour of Morogoro town. This cultural and historical tour will showcase local landmarks, open-air markets, and a traditional fabric store. Next, visit the home of a SEGA student, where you'll enjoy lunch and engaging conversation with the student's family. In the afternoon, return to the SEGA campus and participate in a cultural exchange activity with the students. You’ll partner on activities such as making friendship bracelets, board games, learning to cook chapati, wrapping traditional fabrics, or perhaps joining in traditional dances and songs. A dinner with the Headmistress concludes the day, offering the chance to learn more about the founding, mission, challenges and successes of SEGA Girls' School.
In the morning tour the Sokoine University of Agriculture, whose beautiful campus is set against the backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains. A key institution for agricultural education and research, sustainable farming, and rural development, you’ll learn about their programs as you visit several facilities such as the APOPO, Botanical Garden, and Animal Science Department. Then return to SEGA Visitor House for a special activity with a local tailor, where you will have the chance to get traditional Tanzanian fabric crafted into a fun outfit. After lunch alongside SEGA students, assist with a remedial English tutoring session for Form 1 students. The day wraps up with dinner, during which you’ll meet with a SEGA Matron and learn more about daily life for the students.
After breakfast, join the Morning Assembly at SEGA, learning the welcome song and engaging with the students. Then head into Morogoro town to meet with local guides for today’s excursion—a guided hike into the scenic Uluguru Mountains, including a trek to the stunning Choma Waterfalls where you can refresh with a swim. Enjoy a traditional soil cake demonstration by the locals and have lunch in Choma Village. Return to the school in the afternoon, where you will join SEGA students in various sports activities, followed by dinner.
Spend the morning engaging in a community service activity in collaboration with SEGA students. Afterward, have lunch in Morogoro town before visiting MK Station. Msichana Kisasa (MK) or “Modern Girl” is a program SEGA developed in 2016 that provides a safe space within the communities surrounding SEGA where girls form clubs and are mentored by SEGA graduates. Meet with some of these MK Mentors to participate in the day’s events with them and collaborate on a discussion of a topic of interest, such as: improving self-confidence and communication skills; increasing skills, knowledge, and awareness with respect to girls’ rights; health and hygiene; or financial literacy. In the evening, enjoy a movie night with SEGA Students.
Bid farewell to your new SEGA friends this morning as you check out of SEGA Visitor House and journey to Foxes Safari Camp at Vuma Hills. Once settled in your unique safari camp accommodations, depart for a game drive in Mikumi National Park. As Tanzania’s fourth largest national park, Mikumi’s diverse ecosystems offer a spectacular opportunity for viewing scenic landscapes and a wide range of birds and wildlife, such as the tree-climbing lion, leopard, elephant, wild dog, zebra, kudu and puku antelope. A picnic lunch will be served at the Baobab Tree during your explorations. Return to Foxes Safari Camp in time for dinner.
Following an early wake-up, a light snack of coffee, tea, and cake will be offered at your safari camp before you check out and depart on this morning’s game drive in Mikumi National Park. Later in the drive you’ll enjoy a boxed breakfast at the Baobab Tree. In the afternoon, depart Mikumi National Park and travel to the railway station in Morogoro for a return express train to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, transfer to your hotel and enjoy some free time before capping off your African adventure with a final dinner together.
Depart for your overnight flight back to the USA.
