Itinerary

This itinerary is the starting point for your tour, but it’s not set in stone. If there are days you would like to change, or specific places you’d like to go, we can work with you to create a personalized program that fits the needs of you and your students.

Day 1: Overnight Flight

Depart from the USA. This trip departs on December 26th.

Day 2: Venice

Benvenuti in Italia! Upon arriving in Venice, the Queen of the Adriatic, you'll meet your ACIS Tour Manager and enjoy a fast and fun transfer by private motor launch to your hotel in downtown Venice. Then you're free to start exploring this magnificent city of canals and palaces, which looks especially magical this time of year, decked out in holiday lights.

Day 3: Venice

Consisting of an archipelago carved by nearly 150 canals into 118 different islands, the incomparable city of Venice contains a wealth of sights. Begin in St. Mark's Square where you can see the Basilica of St. Mark and the Bridge of Sighs, which connected the old prisons of Venice to the interrogation rooms of the neighboring Doge's Palace. A visit to this incredible, gothic Palazzo Ducale is included. Stop for a photo at nearby Rialto Bridge en route to an authentic cicchetteria where you will sample traditional Venetian-style tapas. Then explore more at your own pace, perhaps with a visit to the ice skating rink in Campo San Polo or by seeking out colorful and festive Murano glass souvenirs.

Day 4: Florence

Travel by train to Florence, the Cradle of the Renaissance. Upon arrival you'll have time to explore along the banks of the Arno, sample gelato at the famous Vivoli gelateria or see the decorated tree and Nativity scene in Piazza del Duomo. Tonight you'll be able to dine like (and with) the locals using our restaurant vouchers and insider tips on good spots to try.

Day 5: Florence

Today's sightseeing tour with a local guide shows you the splendid Duomo, Ghiberti's famous Baptistry Doors and the Piazza della Signoria—the political center of this Renaissance city. Then breeze by the lines at the Accademia with your timed entrance to see Michelangelo's David. During your free afternoon, perhaps learn about Florence's merchant history or do a little shopping with a stroll across the Ponte Vecchio.

Day 6: Rome

Journey by train from Florence to Rome this morning and visit the iconic and historic Colosseum with a local guide to learn the many stories of this nearly 2,000-year-old landmark that's considered one of the architectural wonders of the ancient world. The best part is that this is a timed entrance, meaning you'll breeze right by the long lines facing other tourists. Then our local expert accompanies you through the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica (more line-avoiding timed reservations). Tonight after an early dinner, ring in the New Year however you choose!

Day 7: Rome

Unique to the holidays, Rome is known for its impressive display of Nativity scenes, which may be crafted from a variety of materials including marble, wood, or even more modern, electronic creations. Visit some of the most impressive examples on a Nativity walking tour this morning. Conclude the tour at St. Peter's Square in time to attend the New Year's Day Papal Blessing. The afternoon is free for you to stock up on toys or torrone at the Christmas market in Piazza Navona, gaze in wonderment at the Pantheon's massive dome, or perhaps take in the view over the city from atop the Gianicolo, one of Rome's famed seven hills. Dinner vouchers are included this evening.

Day 8: Departure

Depart for the USA.
