Welcome to London! Meet your ACIS Tour Manager and begin to explore the city's unique neighborhoods. You may want check out the street markets along Portobello Road in Notting Hill; explore the paths of Hyde Park or the mansions of nearby Belgravia; visit museums in South Kensington; or stroll along the artsy South Bank.
This morning’s panoramic sightseeing tour, led by a local guide, shows you Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Continue with a guided visit of the British Museum, home to an astounding 150 million items. You'll discover objects from around the world including the Rosetta Stone and sculptural friezes from the Parthenon. After dinner you may wish to venture out for an evening walk among the bright lights of Theatreland in the West End.
Set off this morning for the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon to pay homage to the Bard. Visit Shakespeare's Birthplace and his burial site at Holy Trinity Church. Then travel on to Chester. After arriving we’ll walk about the city, seeing the Roman amphitheater and medieval Rows.
We leave Chester for the town of York, and begin to explore with a sightseeing tour of the town that includes entrance to York Minster. This soaring English Gothic cathedral is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. In the evening, test your nerves during a ghost tour of the Old Town. Stick close to your guide who brings to life haunting stories of the city's past.
On our way to Edinburgh, we stop in lovely Durham for a walking tour that includes entrance to the Durham Cathedral. Then imagine yourself as a Roman soldier in Britain as you travel to Chester’s Roman Fort at Hadrian's Wall, the Roman Empire’s northernmost defense against marauders in northern Britain. Portions of the once 80-mile-long wall still stand—a testament to Roman engineering. After stopping for a photo beside the border stone marking the England/Scotland border at Carter Bar, we continue to Edinburgh for the evening.
Our day begins with a sightseeing tour of Edinburgh, viewing Princes Street and Charlotte Square. We later ascend the hill to tour the Edinburgh Castle, home of the Scottish crown jewels and the dramatically-named Stone of Destiny. You’ll have the afternoon to poke around the medieval old town and Georgian new town at your own pace. Perhaps do a little shopping along Multrees Walk or wander the cultural, bohemian West End. We’ll cap off an exceptional week by learning the poetic history of Scotland’s national dish with a traditional haggis tasting and dinner
