ZURICH KLOTEN AIRPORT
HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – ARRIVAL
NB Taxis are not to be taken without specific instructions from the Area Office.
There are two Terminals at Zurich Kloten, but you can walk from one to the other. Your bus should be outside the terminal shortly after arrival of the flight. Beforehand they often wait at the new bus park some 1km from the terminal – it is no longer possible for you to walk there to meet them as used to be the case with the old bus park. Phone reception is poor at the new bus park, so you must get in touch with your driver as soon as possible, and do not rely on being able to call them there on the morning after the group has arrived!
Trains leave from Zurich Hauptbahnhof (main station) approximately every 15 mins.
Trip time: c12 mins
Cost: From 7.00 CHF (online price)
Trains run from 05.00 to 00.43
In practice, you are likely to stay at a hotel in Kloten (small town by the airport) before a tour, and the hotel will have a free shuttle to the airport – or you may be close enough to walk.
HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – DEPARTURE
FROM LUCERNE: Take the Motorways A2, A14, A4 and A51 until you exit towards Zurich Flughafen. As this journey is mostly motorway, you should reckon on a trip time of c1hr. Distance is 68km from central Luzern. Always allow more time if you reasonably can.
It is now possible to drive on the upper ramp directly to the terminals (it did not used to be). Simply follow the general “Abflug” signs, which apply both to cars and now to buses. The bus drop off point is in the middle between T1 and T2, which makes it perfectly located for both.
FROM ENGELBERG: Drive to Lucerne (via Stans) and continue on the motorways as above. Add 45 minutes to overall trip time.
RECONFIRMATION OF FLIGHTS – see Yellow Pages for airline telephone numbers
TAX REFUNDS
Passengers can get their forms processed for goods purchased in both Switzerland and the EU.
The Customs Office is in Terminal 1 opposite Boarding Pass control.
Those who have the purchased items in checked luggage, should check-in first and take the bag (with tags) along with their Tax Refund forms, passport and boarding pass to the Customs Office. After this has been dealt with, the luggage gets sent on from there. They get the refund from the Global Blue desk after security in the Airside Center.
If the purchased items are in their hand luggage, then these are dealt with AFTER security at the Customs Office opposite the Global Blue desk in the Airside Center.
