Arrivals & Departures

Munich Airport/Flughafen München

Munich Airport has 2 terminals. Check in advance where your flights arrive/depart (www.munich-airport.de/en) In general Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners use the newer Terminal 2, whereas all others use the original building Terminal 1. It is easy for you to walk between the two (it takes 10 minutes), but ideally you should not do this with a group with their luggage.

HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – ARRIVAL

NB Taxis are not to be taken without specific instructions from the Area Office.

Terminal One is divided into five Modules, A to E plus Z (Central area). They are all connected by a moving walkway. You should coordinate with your coach driver for pick-up right in front of your module, outside, on the arrivals level.

Terminal Two has just one arrival exit. Follow the signs (to the left, when standing facing the arrivals board) to the coach park pick-up point, which is on the arrivals ground floor level.

S-Bahn line S1 or S8 to Flughafen München

Trains run at least every 20 minutes from 03.13 to 23.13

S8 runs clockwise, S1 runs anti-clockwise, so depending where you get on, choose the shorter route as it can save considerable time.

Trip time (from Hauptbahnhof) 40 minutes in either direction. Cost €14.30.

NB. An Airport-Plus Ticket costs €16.30, gives you unlimited travel, and covvers return trips out to the airport, so will be worth buying if you are staying in Munich.

Airport Express Buses

Lufthansa Airport buses leave from the station (Arnulfstrasse) every 15 minutes from 05.15 until 20.00.

Trip time 45 minutes. Cost €12.00 one way (€19.30 return). Tickets cost slightly more if you buy them on board from the driver.

HOW TO GET TO THE AIRPORT – DEPARTURE

The Airport is North East of Munich on the A92 (Munich – Deggendorf)

From Munich

From the Outer Ring Road (A99) take the A9 (direction Nürnberg), at the Neufahrn junction take the A92 (direction Deggendorf).

Trip time approx 45 minutes – traffic can be very heavy. (Especially during rush hour)

From Salzburg

There is no border checkpoint between Germany and Austria; it is not possible to get passports stamped at the border. Be aware buses heading from Austria to Bavaria (but not vice-versa) are routinely pulled over for checks, so passports should be on the pax, and not in their suitcases.

Salzburg to Munich Airport takes approximately 2½ hours (190 kilometres). Allow a minimum of 3 hours if you are likely to hit the rush hour around Salzburg or Munich.

Take the A8 to Munich and join the Outer Ring Road (A99) towards Munich Nord and the A9 towards Nürnberg. From the Neufahrn junction take the A92 direction Deggendorf.

Always listen for traffic updates!

To Salzburg (Following arrival)

Reverse the directions, A92 – A9 – A99 – A8. Trip time is around 2½ hour
