Excursion

Book your train the day before. The Rigibahnen should put a “reserved for ACIS” sticker on the carriage in Vitznau.

· This excursion may be combined with a boatride to/from Lucerne. Check your voucher and arrange a pick up point with your driver accordingly.

· If the excursion is an optional field trip and the weather is bad, you cannot make refunds to passengers who have pre-paid. That will be dealt with back in the USA.

· In the spring and on covered days in general, it can be quite chilly on the Rigi at an altitude of 5900 ft. Tell them to bring warm clothes. Remember sunglasses and sun screen.

· There are four different ways to reach the Rigi: from Arth, Vitznau and Weggis by cog railway and from Weggis by cable car. If possible you should take the cog railway from Vitznau and return to Weggis by cable car. Be sure the driver knows where to pick you up and that he is aware that the cable car station in Weggis is not the same one as the cog railway station.

· Your timetable is flexible (unless you have a boat reservation). In some cases you might want to do the excursion in the afternoon – for example on Saturdays when the shops close early in Lucerne, or on days when the weather forecast is more optimistic for the afternoon.

A standard timetable for a morning excursion looks like this:

09.00 Leave Lucerne by bus.

09.40 Arrive in Vitznau. Set down and exchange your voucher for

tickets. Tell the Rigibahnen staff when you wish to return. Take

the group to your reserved carriage.

10.15 Depart from Vitznau by cog railway.

10.47 Arrive Rigi Kulm. Give them free time to take pictures. There is

a restaurant, toilets etc.

11.30 Meet your group for the return journey.

12.00 Leave Rigi Kulm by cog railway.

12.15 Arrive Rigi Kaltbad and transfer to cable car.

(Get group to stay together).

12.20 Departure of cable car.

12.35 Arrive in Weggis

13.15 Back in Lucerne
