Davison UMC Choir - Iceland

June 29 - July 7, 2028

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Thursday June 29: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States.

Day 2, Friday June 30: Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland! Meet your guides and private tour buses at the Keflavík international Airport and begin your exploration of the compact capital Reykjavik at your own pace. Begin by strolling through the charming city center, where colorful buildings and vibrant streets provide a true sense of the city’s unique character. Don’t miss Laugavegur Street, perfect for browsing quirky shops, stopping at cozy cafés, and admiring the street art that adds to the city’s creative spirit. Come together tonight for a welcome dinner together (B,D)

Day 3, Saturday July 1: Reykjavik

After breakfast join your city guides for a tour of Reykjavik visiting the city’s main landmarks including the Hallgrímskirkja church, the Sun Voyager, Reykjavik Harbor, the Anarholl Statue, Austurvollur Square, and Lake Tjornin. In the afternoon you'll visit Harpa arts complex for a backstage tour, where you will step behind the scenes and explore areas of the building not open to the general public — including Eldborg, Harpa’s main concert hall, celebrated worldwide for its striking beauty and exceptional acoustics. Dinner tonight is in a local restaurant (B,D)

Day 4, Sunday July 2: Reykjavik

After a leisurely breakfast spend time at the famous Blue Lagoon, known as one of the 25 wonders of the world. This geothermal oasis is a symphony of azure waters contrasting against the dramatic landscapes of black lava fields: be sure to take advantage of the skincare qualities of the volcanic mud ! Later return to the city to prepare for your first concert in one of the city's churches, before dinner together in a local restaurant (B,D)

Day 5, Monday July 3: Reykjavik

This morning first sees a drive to Grábrók, where an easy hike rewards you with the great scenery of Borgarfjörður. Stop at the Settlement Center in Borgarnes to see the Settlement exhibition, which provides an insight into the settlement of Iceland. It tells how the land was discovered, how the Viking sailors conquered the open ocean and why they left their homelands in Norway. In the afternoon, the continuation of the tour will take you to the places where the legendary events of Icelandic history occurred. Visit Bjorgafjordur on the trail of Viking warrior and poet Egill Skallagrimsson. The trail takes you to Reykholt, home of poet and medieval scholar Snorri Sturluson, and the cultural center Snorrastofa. Along the way, you‘ll explore magical landscapes, such as the Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls, and Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Tonights concert takes place in the local church at Reykholt before dinner together (B,D)

Day 6, Tuesday July 4: Reykjavik

Today's tour ventures south and west from the capital, to take in first the spectacular Ring Road waterfall trio of Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, and Gljúfrabúi. Seljalandsfoss Waterfall is one of Iceland’s most beautiful and dramatic waterfalls thanks to its height of 60 meters and its mountainous scenery. You can even hike behind the falls should you like a different vantage point! Continue to Skogafoss Waterfall where, if the sun conditions are favorable, one can see a vivid rainbow in front of the waterfalls. Finally, discover the “hidden” waterfall of Gljúfrabúi, trapped behind a narrow passage flanked by two high cliffs. Continue to Vik to walk and enjoy time at the uniquely picturesque black sand beach. AFter lunch (provided), it's time to meet with a local choir to spend time rehearsing, socialising and performing together, before dinner with your new found friends (B,L,D)

Day 7, Wednesday July 5: Reykjavik

This morning explore the most Icelandic tradition of wool dying, visiting the world-famous Lopi yarn-spinning factory followed by a workshop designing your own unique souvenir from authentic Icelandic wool. Later today travel to your final concert venue, such as the church at Borgarnes, before dinner together in a local restaurant (B,D)

Day 8, Thursday July 6: Reykjavik

Today sees the three natural highlights of any Icelandic trip on the Golden Circle tour. The first stop today is at the hot springs of Geysir, where you'll see the water spout Strokkur ('Cauldron') shoot a column of water up to 98 ft. into the air every 4-8 minutes – a thrilling experience that just never gets old. We'll also view the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvítá tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 105 ft. deep, before finishing the tour at the historical and geological wonder that is Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimeters per year. Return to Reykjavik for a farewell dinner to celebrate your successful trip (B,D)

Day 9, Friday July 7: Departure

Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
