Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Saturday July 1: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States.

Day 2, Sunday July 2: Tokyo

Arrive in Tokyo, the bustling capital of Japan as well as its largest city. Meet your Tour Manager and transfer to the restaurant for a welcome dinner together. Afterwards, check in to the hotel, relax and enjoy a good night's sleep. (D)

Day 3, Monday July 3: Tokyo

Kick-start the day with a guided sightseeing tour, beginning at the Meiji Shrine, which honors the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. You will continue on to view the resplendent Imperial Palace Plaza; the culturally significant Asakusa Kannon Temple. This afternoon, participate in a Taiko Drumming Workshop. Today have a warm up performance at a senior center or civic center. (B,D)

Day 4, Tuesday July 4: Tokyo

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel before setting out to explore the vibrant Tsukiji Outer Market, where colorful stalls, local delicacies, and the energy of Tokyo’s culinary culture create an unforgettable morning experience. Enjoy free time to sample regional specialties and browse the market’s unique offerings. In the afternoon, gather for a focused rehearsal session in preparation for the evening’s exchange performance, sharing music and cultural connection with local string musicians. Conclude the day with a celebratory group dinner, reflecting together on a meaningful day of artistry and cultural exchange

Day 5, Wednesday July 5: Matsumoto

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out, as your luggage is transferred separately to Kyoto for your convenience. Board Japan’s renowned Tokaido Shinkansen for a scenic journey to Matsumoto, experiencing the speed and efficiency of the country’s iconic bullet train. Upon arrival, visit the striking Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s most beautiful and well-preserved feudal castles, known as the “Crow Castle” for its dramatic black exterior. This evening, enjoy a group dinner featuring regional flavors before checking into your hotel for a restful overnight stay.

Day 6, Thursday July 6: Matsumoto

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before beginning a meaningful day in Matsumoto, exploring the roots of the Suzuki Method. Visit the Suzuki Shinichi Memorial Hall, where you will gain insight into Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s life, philosophy, and lasting global impact on music education. Continue to the Talent Education Institute, the heart of the Suzuki movement, for the special opportunity to observe group lessons and witness this inspiring teaching approach in action. A possible master class may occur here depending on availablity. Conclude the day with a delightful group dinner, reflecting together on the profound musical and cultural experiences of the day.

Day 7, Friday July 7: Kyoto

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to the station to board Japan’s renowned bullet train for a smooth and scenic journey to Kyoto. Upon arrival, settle into your hotel and enjoy time to refresh before gathering in the evening for a delightful group dinner, celebrating the next chapter of your musical and cultural exploration together. Day 8, Saturday July 8: Kyoto

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a full day immersed in the rich traditions of Kyoto. Begin with a visit to the iconic Kiyomizu-dera, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its sweeping wooden terrace and panoramic views. Experience the artistry and serenity of a traditional tea ceremony, gaining insight into this centuries-old cultural ritual. Continue to Nishiki Market, often called “Kyoto’s Kitchen,” where you can sample local specialties and explore vibrant food stalls. Conclude your touring in the historic Gion district, known for its preserved wooden machiya houses and enduring geisha traditions. Gather in the evening for a delightful group dinner, reflecting on the cultural treasures discovered throughout the day.

Day 9, Sunday July 9: Kyoto

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before venturing to the picturesque Arashiyama district, known for its serene bamboo groves, scenic river views, and timeless atmosphere. Return in the afternoon for rehearsal, preparing for your culminating performance. In the evening, present your Formal Farewell Concert in Kyoto, celebrating the musical achievements and meaningful connections formed throughout your journey. Conclude this unforgettable tour with a festive farewell dinner, sharing memories and toasting the experiences that will resonate long after your return home.

Day 10, Monday July 10: Departure

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and prepare for your departure. A private transfer will take you to the airport, concluding your unforgettable tour experience and giving you time to reflect on the memories and moments shared throughout your journey with Encore Tours.
