Commonwealth Youth Choir - Korea Shadow Tour

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Thursday June 25: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States for your overnight flight to Korea

Day 2, Friday June 26: Seoul

Arrive in Korea in the late afternoon and meet your tour manager, before transferring to your hotel in time for dinner together (D)

Day 3, Saturday June 27: Seoul

After breakfast this morning take a guided tour to the Korea War Memorial complex, which gives you a good insight into the history of the Korea conflict in the 1950s, which led to the division of the two Koreas as they are today. The musuem stands as a memorial to the fallen and an initiative for peace and the hoped-for reunification of Korea. Today you'll also visit the Gwangjang market to experience the flavors of Korea. Tonight attend the first CYC concert in a church in Seoul (B)

Day 4, Sunday June 28: Seoul

This afternoon visit the National Kimchi Museum, where you'll learn all about this most Korean of condiments, before you try your hand at making your own in a kimchi-making workshop. Dinner tonight is independent at one of the city's vibrant night markets offering delicious street food at incredible prices! (B)

Day 5, Monday June 29: Busan

After breakfast and checking out, visit the famous Suwon fortress south of the city of Seoul. After an independent lunch stop at the Suwon market, continue towards the south of the country and attend the next CYC concert in one of the southern cities. Later continue to the coastal city of Busan and check into your hotel (B)

Day 6, Tuesday June 30: Busan

This morning depart for the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, an ancient temple by the sea and enjoy a self-guided tour. Then pay a lunchtime visit to Jagalchi Market, the largest seafood market in South Korea for a delicious seafood lunch. This afternoon visit the Gamcheon Culture village where you'll see buildings and traditions from all regions and historical eras of Korea. Later attend the next CYC concert. (B)

Day 7, Wednesday July 1: Seoul

This morning after checking out depart to Gyeongju-City to visit the Daereungwon Tomb Complex and Cheonmachong Tomb, famous sites of pilgrimage for Korean Buddhists. Continue on your journey back to the capital city, arriving in time for dinner: tonight you could try a Korean fried chicken dinner in a traditional Korean pub! (B)

Day 8, Thursday July 2: Seoul

After breakfast, spend the morning honing your brewing skills at the Baekusaeng Makgeolli brewery where you'll discover how to make traditional Korean rice beer and rice wine. After an independent lunch in the Mangwon Market, spend some time exploring the local area, before attending the uniquely Korean Nanta show, a hilarious blend of incredible percussion and cooking skills! (B)

Day 9, Friday July 3: Seoul

Today, after experiencing the 10am Changing of the Guard Ceremony, take a tour of the breathtaking Geongbokgung Palace, located in the heart of Seoul. This palace was the royal center of the Joseon Dynasty who ruled Korea for centuries and has amazing history. Later today attend CYC's final concert, before a farewell dinner with the choir to celebrate their successful concert tour (B,D)

Day 10, Saturday July 4: Departure

After breakfast check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the United States (B)
