Fairfax County High School Tour of Scotland

April 12 - 18, 2025

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Saturday April 12: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States.

Day 2, Sunday April 13: Edinburgh

Arrive in Edinburgh and transfer to your hotel in the centre of the city. Spend the afternoon exploring this historic city, now the seat of the Scottish regional government. (D)

Day 3, Monday April 14: Edinburgh

Take a sightseeing tour of Edinburgh with a local guide to include Princes Street, Charlotte Square, the Royal Mile and entrance to Edinburgh Castle, perched high up in the old town. This afternoon rehearse and give your first concert of the tour in a local church or cathedral. Have dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

Day 4, Tuesday April 15: Edinburgh

This morning, take a spectacular scenic daytrip to Loch Lomond, including a boat trip on the lake itself to take in the magnificent scenery. Return to Edinburgh to attend an orchestral concert in a venue such as the Usher Hall (pending final scheduling). Have dinner together this evening. (B,D)

Day 5, Wednesday April 16: Edinburgh

This morning, take part in a bagpipe workshop, where you'll learn all about this most Scottish of musical instruments including how they're made, and the unique way that they are played! This afternoon explore Edinburgh with a difference, taking a Mystery Undergound Edinburgh tour, including special access to Blair Street Underground Vaults, revealing an 18th century world under the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh’s Old Town (B,D)

Day 6, Thursday April 17: Edinburgh

Today take a trip to Stirling Castle, dating back to the early 12th Century, and one of the most historically significant castles in Scotland: it was here that Mary Queen of Scots was crowned. Continue your tour of the spectacular Trossachs National Park region this afternoon. In the evening perform your final concert in a church in Edinburgh, and celebrate your successful tour of Scotland with a farewell dinner in a local restaurant! (B,D)

Day 7, Friday April 18: Departure

Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
