Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Saturday March 6: Overnight Flight

Departure from the USA on your overnight flight to South Africa, connecting on the East Coast .You will arrive in Johannesburg early Sunday morning.

Day 2, Sunday March 7: Johannesburg

Arrive in Johannesburg, where you'll be greeted by your tour manager and begin your South African adventure with a panoramic city tour, taking in the sights and getting your first taste of this vibrant city. Check into your hotel and take some time to freshen up before coming together for a welcome dinner featuring live Marimba music, an unforgettable introduction to the rhythms of South Africa. (D)

Day 3, Monday March 8: Johannesburg

After breakfast depart for a tour of the Soweto Township, made famous as the cradle of the anti-Apartheid movement and now a vibrant cultural and tourist hub where you'll learn about the events that shaped modern South Africa. Today also have your first performance alongside a local township music school depending on availability. Dinner together this evening (B,L,D)

Day 4, Tuesday March 9: Johannesburg

This morning after breakfast you'll visit the Apartheid Musuem, is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with the apartheid story. Learn about the segregation of whites and non-whites which dominated the history of the nation for most of the second half of the 20th Century in South Africa, and the country's new beginnings as a united people. Later today participate in a drum workshop before dinner together (B,L,D)

Day 5, Wednesday March 10: Johannesburg

After breakfast check out and depart. Our first stop this morning is in Rustenburg High School for a morning of collaboration and singing and jazz band jam depending on availability. Lunch today is at your bush lodge hotel, before an exciting sunset safari game drive in the Pilanesburg National Park before a safari barbecue dinner together (B,L,D)

Day 6, Thursday March 11: Johannesburg

Start the morning with a safari game drive through Pilanesberg National Park before returning for breakfast and checking out. Transfer to the Magaliesberg Canopy Tour for a thrilling zipline adventure through this ancient mountain range, then continue to Chameleon Village for lunch and some local arts and crafts shopping. From there, head on to Pretoria and check into your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 7, Friday March 12: Johannesburg

Enjoy breakfast before heading to the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for guided tours of the Maropeng Visitor Centre and the famous Sterkfontein Caves, tracing the story of human origins. Stop for lunch at Maropeng or the Rhino & Lion Park, then spend the afternoon at the Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve for an up-close look at some of South Africa's most iconic wildlife (B,L,D)

Day 8, Saturday March 13: Johannesburg

Start the day with breakfast, followed by a morning performance and choir and jazz exchange with a local school, a wonderful chance to share music across cultures. In the evening, enjoy a traditional African feast, capping off the day with a true taste of South African hospitality. (B,L,D)

Day 9, Sunday March 14: Departure

Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States.
