Fountain Hill Community Chorus Costa Rica 2027

June 8 - 15, 2027

Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Tuesday June 8: San Jose

Depart Pheonix for your performance tour to Costa Rica. San José, Costa Rica's vibrant capital, serves as your gateway to a journey of music, culture, and connection. Nestled in the fertile Central Valley and ringed by volcanic peaks, the city pulses with the warmth of "pura vida" — the Costa Rican philosophy of living life fully and joyfully. There is no better spirit to carry into nine days of choral adventure. Upon arrival in San Jose, meet your Tour Manager and begin your sightseeing. Your first afternoon introduces you to the extraordinary natural drama of Costa Rica. The La Paz Waterfalls cascade through a lush cloud forest reserve, their roar a reminder of the elemental power of this small but astonishing country. Hummingbirds dart through the mist, and the sound of rushing water sets the tone for a journey that will engage all your senses. After settling into your hotel, gather your voices for a short evening rehearsal. It's the first time the full group sings together on Costa Rican soil — a moment to find your collective sound in a new place, and to feel the excitement of what lies ahead. Enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant after checking in at your hotel.

Day 2, Wednesday June 9: San Jose

The day begins in the lush highlands north of the capital at the La Paz waterfalls, an easy introduction to the landscapes that draw singers and travelers to Costa Rica. In the late afternoon the chorus warms up and gives its opening concert in San José, shared with a Costa Rican choir. It is a fitting way to begin: the country's top choral ensembles have taken medals at European competitions, placed first in fields of more than fifty nations, and earned their national music prize more than once — so this first performance places your singers alongside hosts of real international stature, and in front of an audience that takes its choral tradition seriously. • La Paz Waterfalls tour with lunch • 4 pm warm-up and opening concert in San José City with Costa Rican choir Meals included: B, L, D

Day 3, Thursday June 10: Monteverde

The chorus travels up into Monteverde, the misty cloud-forest region high in the mountains. The afternoon is given over to a coffee tour among the forest, a chance to see how Costa Rica's most famous export is grown and roasted, before dinner at one of the town's well-loved restaurants. • Travel to Monteverde • Afternoon coffee tour in the cloud forest • Dinner in famous town restaurant Meals included: B, D (B,L,D)

Day 4, Friday June 11: Monteverde

The morning is spent walking the cloud forest's hanging bridges, threading through the canopy of one of the last ecosystems of its kind. In the afternoon and evening the chorus gives its second concert at a community school in Monteverde — a school with deep roots: it was founded in the early 1950s by the Quaker families who first settled this mountain, the same community whose decision to protect the surrounding forest created the cloud-forest reserves the region is now known for. Bilingual, small, and tightly woven into local life, it has long opened its doors to music and visitors. The day closes with a potluck dinner shared with that community. • Cloud forest hanging bridges walk in the morning • Free lunch time • Afternoon/evening second concert at Monteverde’s community school performed by choir • Potluck dinner with community Meals included: B, D (B,L,D)

Day 5, Saturday June 12: Manuel Antonio

The tour descends from the mountains to the Pacific coast and the resort town of Manuel Antonio. With the travel behind them, singers have a free afternoon to rest their voices, swim, or simply enjoy the change of scenery after the cloud forest. • Travel to the beach • Free afternoon Meals included: B, D (B,L,D)

Day 6, Sunday June 13: Manuel Antonio

A morning visit to Manuel Antonio National Park, where rainforest meets white-sand beach and monkeys, sloths, and seabirds are common sights along the trails. The afternoon is again free for the coast, a relaxed day before the return to the capital. • Morning National Park Visit • Free afternoon Meals included: B, D (B,D)

Day 7, Monday June 14: San Jose

The chorus travels back to San José for its final performance: a farewell concert shared with a local choir group. Closing the tour the way it opened — singing alongside Costa Rican hosts — brings the week full circle and sends the ensemble home on its strongest, most settled sound. • Travel back to the city • Farewell concert with local choir group Meals included: B, D

Day 8, Tuesday June 15: Departure

After breakfast at your hotel and check out, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Pheonix. (B)
