Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Friday March 17: Overnight Flight

Departure from the USA on your overnight flight to South Africa, connecting on the East Coast

Day 2, Saturday March 18: Johannesburg

On arrival in Johannesburg, meet your tour managers and transfer to your first hotel in time for a group dinner together with a Marimba Band and African Music (B,L,D)

Day 3, Sunday March 19: Johannesburg

After breakfast depart for a tour of the Soweto Township, made famous as the cradle of the anti-Apartheid movement and now a vibrant cultural and tourist hub where you'll learn about the events that shaped modern South Africa, and take lunch with the locals! Later you'll also rehearse for your jazz combo's alongside a local township choir as a festival performance before dinner together (B,D)

Day 4, Monday March 20: Johannesburg

This morning after breakfast you'll visit the Apartheid Musuem, is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with the apartheid story. Learn about the segregation of whites and non-whites which dominated the history of the nation for most of the second half of the 20th Century in South Africa, and the country's new beginnings as a united people. After lunch attend a drum workshop, before dinner together (B,D)

Day 5, Tuesday March 21: Cape Town

After breakfast check out and depart. Our first stop this morning is in Rustenburg High School for a morning of collaboration jazz combo jam. Lunch today is at your bush lodge hotel, before an exciting sunset safari game drive in the Pilanesburg National Park before a safari barbecue dinner together (B,L,D)

Day 6, Wednesday March 22: Cape Town

It's a very early start this morning for your second game drive in the Park, where you'll hopefully catch a glimpse of some of the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) before transferring back to the airport in time for lunch and for your flight to Cape Town. You'll arrive in this beautiful coastal city in time for dinner at the renowned V&A Waterfront in the city (B,L,D)

Day 7, Thursday March 23: Cape Town

After breakfast, participate in jazz combo cultural exchange with a local school or the Stellenbosch University Music Students (subject to confirmation). Following the performance, travel into the heart of the Cape Winelands for a hands-on cooking class or food workshop at a renowned Stellenbosch winery, where you will enjoy lunch featuring regional flavors and culinary traditions. Dinner tonight will be at Gold Restaurant, including an interactive drumming experience and a vibrant live performance showcasing the music, dance, and cultures of Africa. (B,L,D)

Day 8, Friday March 24: Cape Town

This morning after breakfast take a tour of the Cape Peninsula, including a boat cruise across Hout Bay to Seal Island, the African Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, and lunch in Simons Town. Return to the city to prepare for your final performance tonight. Celebrate the conclusion of your South African adventure with a memorable farewell dinner (B,L,D)

Day 9, Saturday March 25: Departure

Wake up this morning and on your way to the airport have one last view of South Africa by taking the cable care up to the top of Table Mountain! The transfer to aiport and return back home.
