Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Friday March 13: Washington DC
Departure from San Francisco for your three-night stay in Washington DC. Follow Maestro Kedrick Armstrong as he debuts with the Washington National Opera conducting this world premiere new production of Scott Joplin's Treemonisha at the Kennedy Center. Upon arrival in Washington, meet your Encore Experiences Tour Manager in the arrivals hall and make your way to your deluxe Motor coach for the transfer to the Melrose Hotel DC. After check-in and time to relax, meet this evening at 7pm in the Fireplace Lounge off the lobby for a Festive Welcome Reception with plentiful hors d'oeuvres, canapés, and private cocktail bar. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy the Capitol City.
Day 2, Saturday March 14: Washington DC
After a delicious buffet breakfast in your private banquet room, meet in the lobby and transfer to the National Museum of African American History and Culture for a guided tour, where national stories—and Oakland’s own stories of Maestro Michael Morgan, Betty Reid Soskin, and the Black Panther Party—are uplifted as part of a shared legacy of leadership, creativity, and activism. Enjoy a free afternoon and dinner on your own before meeting in the hotel lobby to transfer to The Kennedy Center to enjoy the National Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, featuring Hilary Hahn (violin) and Seth Parker Woods (cello) in the world premiere of Carlos Simon’s Double Concerto by the acclaimed National Composer-in-Residence and friend of the Oakland Symphony. The program also includes Schumann’s Manfred Overture and Brahms’s Symphony No. 3. (B)
Day 3, Sunday March 15: Washington DC
After your buffet breakfast at the hotel, meet your Tour Manager this morning in the lobby and transfer to the National Gallery for a guided tour of the vast collection of art that is housed within. The rest of the day is free in DC to explore on your own before meeting once again in the hotel lobby to transfer to George Washington University for the world premiere of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha—a reimagined American masterpiece directed by acclaimed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, with arrangements by Damien Sneed and libretto by Kyle Bass—conducted by your Maestro Kedrick Armstrong in his Washington National Opera debut at The Kennedy Center. (B)
Day 4, Monday March 16: Departure
Transfer to the airport for return flight to San Francisco —departing with unforgettable memories of music, legacy, and artistry in our nation’s capital. (B)
