Itinerary

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Saturday June 13: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States.

Day 2, Sunday June 14: Leipzig

On arrival at Dresden airport, transfer to Leipzig, the famous musical city of Bach, Mendelssohn and Schumann. Check into your hotel for the next 3 nights.(D)

Day 3, Monday June 15: Leipzig

After breakfast in your hotel you will enjoy a Bach-themed guided tour of historic Leipzig, including visits to the Bach Archive with its original manuscripts and the Thomaskirche where the great composer rests. This afternoon transfer to the nearby town of Wettin, where you will perform a shared concert with a local music school followed by a pot-luck dinner together with your hosts (B,D)

Day 4, Tuesday June 16: Leipzig

After breakfast, this morning's musical experiences include visits to the Grassi Museum with its famous instrument collection, and a visit to the Mendelssohn House, the family apartment perfectly preserved as it was when Felix lived there! This afternoon participate in a workshop led by a member of the violin section of the world-famous Gewandhaus Orchestra. This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

Day 5, Wednesday June 17: Wroclaw/Breslau

This morning check out of your hotel and take a trip to the historic city of Dresden, the 'Florence on the Elbe', and explore this city on a guided tour. Almost completely destroyed by Allied bombers in World War 2, the center and its iconic Frauenkirche church have been completely restored through public donation, and siince German reunification in 1990, Dresden has emerged as a cultural, political, and economic center in the eastern part of Germany. Later perform a 'Kaffee und Kuchen' afternoon concert in the nearby town of Radebeul, in aid of a local hospice. Dinner is en route to Wroclaw, your next stop on this tour. (B,D)

Day 6, Thursday June 18: Wroclaw/Breslau

This morning explore Wroclaw on your guided tour: consistently one of the 'youngest' and most popular cities in Europe, Wroclaw was European Capital of Culture in 2016, and earlier in the 20th Century was a bedrock of the resistance against Communist rule. See how many of Wroclaw's famous bronze dwarf sculptures you can spot, themselves a symbol of the anti communist movement! Later perform your Polish concert in a venue such as the spa town of Szczawno. (B,D)

Day 7, Friday June 19: Berlin

After a leisurely morning depart for the journey to Germany's capital Berlin. Check in to your final hotel on the trip and take a brief orientation tour around the Alexanderplatz area, made famous in (amongst others), the Bourne movies! (B,D)

Day 8, Saturday June 20: Berlin

Today continue your exploration of the Western half of the city with a tour of the iconic Berliner Philharmonie concert hall, before some free time shopping on the famous 'Ku-damm' shopping street. Later prepare for your final concert which could be a joint concert with a youth string orchestra in Potsdam. Dinner will be together in a restaurant this evening. (B,D)

Day 9, Sunday June 21: Berlin

This morning, following breakfast at the hotel, dive straight into the fascinating history of this once-divided city with a visit to the site of the Berlin Wall, the somber Holocaust Memorial, and Checkpoint Charlie, the famous crossing between East and West Berlin and an enduring symbol of the Cold War. Tonight experience one of the world's best orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonic, at one of their summer 'Forest Theater' performances (subject to schedule) (B,D)

Day 10, Monday June 22: Departure

Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
