Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Friday March 13: Overnight Flight
Depart from the USA.
Day 2, Saturday March 14: Munich
Arrive in Munich, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to the city centre. Here you will take a tour exploring Bavaria's capital with an expert guide to sites like Marienplatz with its famed Glockenspiel, the Viktualienmarkt food and flower market and the surfers on the Isar River in the Englischer Garten. Take dinner together in your hotel before a good night's sleep! (B,D)
Day 3, Sunday March 15: Munich
After breakfast this morning's excursion takes you to Ludwig II's fairyland castle of Neuschwanstein. The famous castle, with its many turrets and towers was opened to the public in 1886 and clings to the top of the surrounding cliffs. Return to the city for an early dinner before attending a concert by the world-class Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra! (B,D)
Day 4, Monday March 16: Salzburg
After breakfast check out and depart for the journey towards Salzburg. The first stop today is a visit to the beautiful Chiemsee Lake, where you'll take a traditional lake steamer trip to the Herrenchiemsee castle on an island. The composer Richard Wagner spent time here with his famous patron Ludwig II. Continue to Salzburg to check into your next hotel before taking dinner together (B,D)
Day 5, Tuesday March 17: Salzburg
This morning take a guided sightseeing tour of the city, encompassing all aspects of the musical spectrum from Mozart to the locations used in the Sound of Music movie, and including the famous Festung Salzburg which gives the city its name, accessible by a funicular railway. This afternoon pay a visit to both Mozart's birthplace museum, and the Mozart familiy house, as well as enjoying EXCLUSIVE access to the family vault housing some of his original manuscripts. Dinner tonight is in a local city restaurant (B,D)
Day 6, Wednesday March 18: Salzburg
Today take a trip to the picture postcard lakeside village of Hallstatt, and dive underground to the famous saltmines. Take an underground train and boat ride, and find out how the white gold became the most valuable currency and gave the city of Salzburg immense wealth! Tonight experience the music of Mozart once more as you take dinner accompanied by musicians dressed for the 18th Century. (B,D)
Day 7, Thursday March 19: Vienna
Check out after breakfast and depart for the journey to Vienna, capital of Austria. Before you enter the city, visit the grounds and interior of Schonbrunn Palace, the massive Habsburg summer retreat, including the Imperial state rooms and private quarters of the Austrian Emperors. Continue your guided tour in the center of the city, finishing at the magnificent St Stephen's Cathedral, where you will be treated to an exclusive welcome reception in the roof space of the Cathedral itself, with amazing views over the city. Continue to your hotel for dinner (B,D)
Day 8, Friday March 20: Vienna
After breakfast continue your immersion into the rich musical heritage of Vienna by taking a workshop with one of the directors of the Vienna Boys Choir; it may even culminate in a short choir performance! After lunch travel to the city of Wiener Neustadt where you'll take a private tour of the iconic Bosendorfer Piano factory, a fascinating insight into the king of instruments. Dinner tonight is in a restaurant back in Vienna (B,D)
Day 9, Saturday March 21: Vienna
Today is once more packed with music: visit the houses where both Haydn and Mozart lived during their times in Vienna, take a guided visit of the State Opera House, and pay a visit to the Haus der Musik interactive museum and try your hand at conducting the virtual Vienna Philharmonic! Later after an early dinner experience the real thing by attending an orchestral concert in the world-famous Musikverein concert hall (B,D)
Day 10, Sunday March 22: Departure
This morning bid your final farewell to Mozart and many other famous composers by visiting the St Marx and Zentral cemeteries for a guided visit of the 'Music section', before continuing to the airport to depart for home (B)
