Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Sunday June 13: Overnight Flight
Departure from the United States.
Day 2, Monday June 14: Bratislava
Welcome to Central Europe! Arrive in Vienna, and meet your tour manager for the transfer to the Slovak capital Bratislava Take a brief orientation tour of the local area with your tour manager. Your welcome dinner is in the hotel tonight (D)
Day 3, Tuesday June 15: Bratislava
Today explore the compact and traffic-free historic city center nestled on the banks of the Danube river on a short guided sightseeing tour, before visiting the museum dedicated to the composer Johann Hummel. Later after a sit-down lunch together, take a trip down the river itself by boat, before returning to the city for your first concert in a local cultural center or jazz club. Tonight sees dinner in a traditional Slovak restaurant with folk music entertainment! (B,L,D)
Day 4, Wednesday June 16: Krakow
Check out of your hotel after breakfast, and journey to the historic city of Krakow in southern Poland, taking a packed lunch. An en route stop is possible in the medieval Moravian city of Olomouc. Dinner tonight is in your hotel in Krakow (B,L,D)
Day 5, Thursday June 17: Krakow
After breakfast take a trip to the spectacular salt mines at Wieliczka: descend into the intricate caverns and experience the Blessed Kinga Chapel, an underground cathedral of salt! A bag lunch is provided today. Later return to Krakow to spend the afternoon in a local music school (subject to confirmation), followed by a shared traditional Klezmer music and dance workshop in the Jewish quarter with your new-found friends, followed by dinner together (B,D)
Day 6, Friday June 18: Krakow
This morning take a guided sightseeing tour of the city of Krakow, which has an almost perfectly preserved medieval center. Visit the Cloth Hall, the Mariacki Church where Pope John Paull II was Archbishop, and the Kazimierz Jewish quarter, where you may encounter traditional street musicians. After a simple cafe lunch together, you'll also have the opportunity to visit the National Museum's main collection of Polish art and Decorative Arts. Today perform your next concert in a local Jazz club in the city before dinner together (B,L,D)
Day 7, Saturday June 19: Prague
Check out this morning and travel from Krakow to Prague. On arrival in the Golden City, take a brief orientation tour of the local area with your tour manager, including optional visits to the Bertramka villa where Mozart lived in Prague, or the Petrin Hill funicular for your first views over the city. Your welcome dinner is in the hotel tonight (B,L, D)
Day 8, Sunday June 20: Prague
This morning after breakfast take a whistle stop guided tour of the Castle area, before descending the hill to the Mala Strana ('Little Quarter'), whose historic streets were used as the set for the movie Amadeus. Continue across the Charles Bridge and visit the Alphonse Mucha Art Museum featuring many original works by the famous Czech graphic artist. A box lunch is provided today, before this afternoon participating in a masterclass with a local jazz clinician. Dinner tonight is in a local restaurant (B,L,D)
Day 9, Monday June 21: Prague
This morning pay a visit to the Prague Jewish Quarter to learn about the Jewish history of Prague and the Czech Republic. Continue to the Czech Museum of Music to dive into the history of Dvorak, Smetana and many other eminent Czech composers, before a visit to the Dvorak House where the composer. Enjoy a simple lunch together before preparing for your next performance, taking place this evening in a venue such as the Malostranska Beseda club venue. After a dinner together, you may like to visit one of Prague's famous Jazz clubs such as Reduta, where former President Bill Clinton once played the saxophone! (B,L, D)
Day 10, Tuesday June 22: Departure
Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
