Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Saturday March 6: Overnight Flight
Departure from the USA on your overnight flight to South Africa.
Day 2, Sunday March 7: Johannesburg
Arrive in Johannesburg, where you'll be greeted by your tour manager and begin your South African adventure with a panoramic city tour, taking in the sights and getting your first taste of this vibrant city. Check into your hotel and take some time to freshen up before coming together for a welcome dinner featuring live Marimba music, an unforgettable introduction to the rhythms of South Africa. (B,L,D)
Day 3, Monday March 8: Johannesburg
After breakfast depart for a tour of the Soweto Township, made famous as the cradle of the anti-Apartheid movement and now a vibrant cultural and tourist hub where you'll learn about the events that shaped modern South Africa. Today also have your first performance alongside a local township choir pending approval. Dinner together this evening (B,L,D)
Day 4, Tuesday March 9: Johannesburg
This morning after breakfast you'll visit the Apartheid Musuem, is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with the apartheid story. Learn about the segregation of whites and non-whites which dominated the history of the nation for most of the second half of the 20th Century in South Africa, and the country's new beginnings as a united people. After lunch attend a drum workshop, before dinner together (D)
Day 5, Wednesday March 10: Pilanesberg
After breakfast check out and depart. Our first stop this morning is in Rustenburg High School for a morning of collaboration and singing and jazz band jam, pending approval and schedule. Lunch today is at your bush lodge hotel, before an exciting sunset safari game drive in the Pilanesburg National Park before a safari barbecue dinner together (B,L,D)
Day 6, Thursday March 11: Cape Town
It's a very early start this morning for your second game drive in the Park, where you'll hopefully catch a glimpse of some of the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), before transferring back to the airport in time for lunch and for your flight to Cape Town. You'll arrive in this beautiful coastal city in time for dinner at the renowned V&A Waterfront in the city (B,L,D)
Day 7, Friday March 12: Cape Town
Following breakfast, participate in a choir and jazz band cultural exchange with a local school or Stellenbosch University (subject to confirmation) — a unique and deeply meaningful opportunity to share music across cultures and connect with South African student musicians on their home turf. Today discover the art of South African cooking as you enjoy a hands on cooking class for lunch. Then gather for a memorable dinner at Gold Restaurant — a perfect finale to your South African adventure. Participate in an interactive djembe drumming session, then sit back and enjoy a 14-dish taste safari of pan-African cuisine accompanied by a vibrant live performance showcasing the music, dance, and rich cultural traditions of the continent.
Day 8, Saturday March 13: Cape Town
Following breakfast, embark on a full-day tour of the spectacular Cape Peninsula — one of the most breathtaking stretches of coastline in the world. Board a boat cruise from Hout Bay harbour to Duiker Island, home to thousands of Cape fur seals basking and swimming in their natural habitat (weather permitting) — and with March being peak season for the colony, you can expect to see them in impressive numbers. Continue to the famous African Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, where these charismatic birds nest just steps from the shore, before stopping for lunch in the charming harbour town of Simon's Town. Return to the city in the afternoon. Perpare for your final performance this evening together. Finish with a farewell dinner!
Day 9, Sunday March 14: Departure
Check out of your hotel and get one more view of Cape Town by taking the Cable Car to the top of Table Mountain. Board your coach and transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
