Itinerary
The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.
Day 1, Monday June 7: Overnight Flight
Departure from the US on your overnight flight to London.
Day 2, Tuesday June 8: London
Welcome to London! After meeting your friendly tour manager, board your private coach and prepare for your first taste of this great world city. You will find that London is bustling, vibrant, multicultural and cosmopolitan, both old and new, with ancient castles right next door to the newest skyscrapers. Your sightseeing tour will take you to some of the most iconic sites, such as Kensington Palace, the Albert Memorial, the Natural History Museum, the V&A, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park, Piccadilly, Pall Mall and Trafalgar Square. After an orientation walk with your tour manager, you will get some free time to explore central London on your own. You can use this opportunity to visit Leicester Square, go for a spot of lunch in China Town or admire the shops and covered markets in Covent Garden. In the afternoon visit to the iconic Tower of London. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the place, and discover how it once served both as a palace, and as a prison, where anyone thought be a threat to national security would be brought, including Anne Boleyn, the future Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Walter Raleigh and Guy Fawkes. Ater checking in at your hotel, enjoy a Welcome to London Dinner in a local restaurant. (D)
Day 3, Wednesday June 9: London
Enjoy a morning at leisure in London. Mid-afternoon perform a formal concert at the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, in the heart of London’s Belgravia and enjoy a celebration dinner in a local London restaurant. Day 4, Thursday June 10: London
Today you will visit Windsor and Eton, two ancient and charming riverside twin towns, separated by the River Thames and joined by Windsor Bridge. You will start with elegant Windsor and a visit to the magnificent Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest working royal castle in the world, founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. Explore the beautiful grounds, visit the medieval gothic St George's Chapel, where many royal baptisms, weddings and funerals have taken place over the centuries and enjoy a self-guided visit of the State Apartments, which include a viewing of the recently restored Queen Mary's Dolls’ House. After a lunch break on your own, meet you tour manager, and together walk over Eton Bridge into the quirky streets of the lovely Eton Town, dominated by the famed Eton College, the ancient public school which has educated many of England's establishment, and where princes William and Harry went to school (exterior visit). Rest of the day and evening at leisure in the British capital. Day 5, Friday June 11: Oxford
Leaving the bustle of London behind you, you will start your tour of the UK by travelling to the city of Oxford, home to the world-famous Oxford University, the oldest-English-speaking university in the world. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and embark on a walking tour that will cover over 1,400 years of history, from the Saxons to the present day. See old colleges and landmarks, such as the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian Library and the Bridge of Sighs, visit the Covered Market, walk along hidden alleyways and discover the remnants of the old city, still embedded in the walls of the modern university, including the historic Jewish quarter. The tour ends with a visit to the world-famous Christ Church College, followed by a formal concert in this historic and stunning venue. In the afternoon enjoy some free time to experience Oxford’s charm on your own, before checking it at your hotel. Evening at leisure in Oxford. (B)
Day 6, Saturday June 12: Cotswolds
Today you will spend the day in the beautiful Cotswolds, with its romantic landscape, tranquil little towns of golden stone houses, flowering gardens and small cottages in the middle of lush green hills. Visit the quintessential English town Stow-on-the-Wold, with its mellow Cotswold stone houses and cosy tea shops; enjoy a stroll in the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water and its idyllic village scenes, with gently flowing River Windrush running through the centre of the village and crossed by attractive little bridges; go for a spot of lunch in Chipping Campden, the jewels of the Cotswolds, one of the best preserved and most historically important Cotswold towns; and immerse yourself in the colours and scents of the family-run Kiftsgate House Gardens, featuring rare plants and shrubs, including the world-famous Kiftsgate rose, before travelling on to your hotel in the Cotswolds area. In the evening enjoy a group dinner at your hotel. (B,D)
Day 7, Sunday June 13: Cardiff
Today you will move on to Wales, a country of glorious landscapes, with its rugged coastline, stunning beaches, lush valleys, snow-capped peaks and fairy-tale castles that will definitely transport you to a state of hwyl – a Welsh word with no direct translation in English, that broadly describes a deep state of joy that comes from being totally immersed in the moment. Find some hwyl in the majestic ruins of the great Tintern Abbey, a national icon still standing in roofless splendour on the banks of the River Wye nearly 500 years since its tragic fall from grace. Then move on to today’s final destination, the friendly capital Cardiff, a vibrant, compact, and friendly city with a lively culture, Birthplace of the famous author Roald Dahl. After a relaxing lunch break on your own, visit Cardiff Castle, a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion with a history that spans over 2000 years. Enjoy a guided tour of its amazingly lavish and opulent interiors, where each breathtaking room is rich with murals, stained glass, gilding and superb craftsmanship. Group dinner in a local Cardiff restaurant. (B,D)
Day 8, Monday June 14: Cardiff
In the morning visit Castell Coch. The “Red Castle” rises up from the ancient beech woods of Fforest Fawr like a vision from a fairytale. Yet these great towers with their unmistakable conical roofs only hint at the splendour within. Given free rein by the third Marquess of Bute, architect William Burges didn’t hold back. The highly decorated interiors and rich furnishings of Castell Coch make it a dazzling masterpiece of the High Victorian era. In the afternoon prepare for your final concert. Meet the local Male Voice Choir who will partner with you this evening for an assuredly fantastic joint concert for an enthusiastic, choir music savvy, Cardiff audience. Enjoy an evening at leisure in Cardiff. (B)
Day 9, Tuesday June 15: Berkshire
Already on the last leg of your UK tour, you will leave Cardiff behind and travel on to the city of Bath. Discover the quirky corners of this Roman city, including the unique Pulteney Bridge, the charming Guildhall Market, its medieval streets and ancient city walls. In the afternoon dive into pre-historic history on a visit to the World Heritage site of Stonehenge, the most famous and sophisticated prehistoric stone circle in the world before moving on to your hotel in Berkshire. In the evening enjoy a group farewell dinner at your hotel or in a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 10, Wednesday June 16: Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the London airport for return flight to the United States. (B)
