Norwalk Youth Symphony Performance Tour to Italy

The itinerary is the starting point to your tour, but it’s not set in stone. Your group leader may make changes leading up to departure.

Day 1, Sunday June 21: Overnight Flight

Departure from the United States.

Day 2, Monday June 22: Montecatini

Benvenuti in Italia! Arrive in Florence and meet your Tour Manager at the airport. Transfer to your hotel in nearby Montecatini for check-in and enjoy dinner together this evening. (D)

Day 3, Tuesday June 23: Montecatini

After breakfast, which is included each morning of the tour, depart for the beautiful medieval walled town of Lucca this morning. Enjoy free time for independent sightseeing and lunch. This afternoon, rehearse ans set up for your debut concert. A possible exchange performance will be at the Terme Tettucio (pending approval). Return to Montecatini for the overnight. (B,D)

Day 4, Wednesday June 24: Montecatini

After breakfast, drive to Florence where you will meet a local guide for a walking tour which shows you Santa Croce, the Duomo and Ghiberti's famous Baptistry Doors. You will also visit the Accademia to see Michaelangelo's "David." Spend some free time exploring Florence and immersing yourself in the local culture, perhaps with a stroll across the Ponte Vecchio or a taste of gelato at Vivoli's. Enjoy dinner this evening together. (B,D)

Day 5, Thursday June 25: Rome

This morning, check out of your hotel and visit the beautiful Tuscan towns of San Gimignano and Siena. Then arrive in Orvieto, where you will rehearse and perform your next concert at the historic Teatro Mancinelli (pending approval). Continue to Rome where you will check into your hotel. (B,D)

Day 6, Friday June 26: Rome

Sightseeing with a local guide includes a panoramic drive of the Eternal City's highlights, including the Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla, and Monument of Vittorio Emanuele (Rome's "Wedding Cake"). This afternoon/evening will be your final performance of the tour. A possible venue is Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. Enjoy dinner together this evening. (B,D)

Day 7, Saturday June 27: Rome

Meet a local guide this morning for a visit to St. Peter's and the Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel with whispers headsets. Then enjoy some free time for lunch on your own. After dinner, head to the Pantheon area for a stroll. (B,D)

Day 8, Sunday June 28: Rome

This morning, you’ll visit the Colosseum and Forum to learn more about the heart of the Roman Empire. Enjoy free time this afternoon to explore Rome in small groups. Then enjoy a final dinner together this evening (B,D)

Day 9, Monday June 29: Departure

Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States.
