  • Peter's Vision for this Tour: Don’t miss this high-octane experience! The way I love to travel personally is to experience as much as I can, and rest when I return home. We start with the wonderful Amadeus tour, which is quite simply my very favourite ACIS itinerary, taking in some of my most beloved cities in Europe from Venice to Prague, and some of the most beautiful scenery I know, particularly around Salzburg. This signature version is designed to create a trip that’s even more active—with lots of outdoor activities, less formal city sightseeing, more hiking, and just a maximum amount of hands-on fun! You’ll get loads of stories and interesting history and culture from me on the bus, shorter and more casual city sightseeing tours and all manner of other cool things. If you fancy hanging round your hotel room or having hours to go shopping, this probably isn’t the trip for you. Do come if you want to do things like take a summer toboggan ride down the side of an Austrian mountain, hike up to ruined castles, have a blast at a fantastic water park, and make every minute of every day count. If you’re fit and active, genuinely “up for adventure,” I promise you an amazing 10-day experience you’ll remember for years to come. Read More

Amadeus with Peter

July 19 - 28, 2021

Itinerary

Day 1, Monday July 19: Overnight Flight

Depart from the USA.

Day 2, Tuesday July 20: Venice

Arrive in Venice, meet your ACIS Tour Manager Peter at the airport and transfer by private motor launch to your hotel on the Lido. After dropping your luggage, head straight to St Mark’s Square by boat to start exploring. Navigate the maze of canals and streets from St Mark’s over to the Rialto Bridge—an essential photo stop. You will also go up to the top of the historic Fondaco dei Tedeschi for breathtaking views of the Grand Canal from its rooftop. (D)

Day 3, Wednesday July 21: Venice

This morning begins with an included gondola tour of the city, departing from outside the Hard Rock Café. A private motor launch will then take you to Torcello, where you will trek over to the ancient basilica that dates back to 639. A photograph on Atilla’s throne is a must. From here continue to the beautiful island of Burano. Your final stop of today's tour around the stunning Venice Lagoon will be the island of Murano for an authentic glassblowing demonstration (on the island where all Venetian glassmakers were actually based for centuries). (B,D)

Day 4, Thursday July 22: Salzburg

Enjoy a spectacular morning drive through pristine Alpine settings today. Crossing from Italy into Austria, stop in Villach to see the 14th century St. Jakob's Church and Renaissance town hall. Continue to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and setting of the movie Sound of Music. After dinner, hike up the steep Kapuzinerberg Hill for breathtaking panoramic views over the city. (B,D)

Day 5, Friday July 23: Salzburg

This morning you will have an orientation walking tour through the city with Peter, taking in all the main sites, but with no formal commentary. Then take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress, after which you’ll have the chance for some time on your own to explore the Old Town and to grab an early lunch. This afternoon's first stop will be Hellbrunn Palace to experience the fountains of its "water gardens”. Be prepared for a surprise! Next, proceed to the mountains of Salzburg's countryside for a fun visit down into the Hallein Salt Mine, including a ride down the long wooden slides the miners used and the underground train. Weather permitting you will then go up the Zinkenkoggel by chair lift, and descend the mountain at speed on the 2.2km long summer bobsleigh run. The scenic drive back to the city takes in views of Hitler’s Eagle Nest in neighboring Germany. Finally, tonight’s dinner is truly something special: Stiftskeller St. Peter’s is central Europe’s oldest restaurant and is tucked inside one of the courtyards of the old abbey. You should have hopefully dried out by then. (B,D)

Day 6, Saturday July 24: Vienna

Journey east to picturesque St. Gilgen, known for some of the finest chocolate making in the world. You'll learn to make your own Mozartkugel (a type of chocolate ball filled with marzipan) and receive a diploma for your confectionery achievements. Continue towards Vienna, located along the enchanting Wachau stretch of the Danube. En route, stop in Dürnstein for a steep hike up to its ruined medieval castle and learn all about King Richard the Lionheart of England, who was once imprisoned there. (B,D)

Day 7, Sunday July 25: Vienna

This morning Peter takes you on a guided panoramic tour of Vienna to see all the main sights, including a view over the city from the breathtaking Belvedere Palace. Entry to the palace art museum is included to see Klimt’s famous painting, The Kiss. Heading back into the centre of Vienna you will have a guided tour of the Spanish Riding School to see the famous dancing white Lipizzaner horses close up. Then enjoy time on your own to explore more of the amazing museums the city has to offer, or to shop. Ice cream this afternoon is included along with Peter’s top tip for the best Italian gelateria in the city. After dinner we will head to the amusements of Prater Park—do you dare to try one of the high octane rides? (B,D)

Day 8, Monday July 26: Prague

Our drive northwards takes you first to Exacalibur City near Znojomo. This is truly the weirdest rest stop you will experience anywhere, and the best of introductions to the quirky Czech character. Continue to the fairytale town of Telč to admire the colorful buildings on its historic town square, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and have time for lunch. Later arrive in Prague for yet another one of those steep hikes after dinner. You really won’t reget this one, because it goes all the way up to the top of the Petrin Tower, Prague’s copy of the Eiffel Tower, and gives you the most breathtaking views over the whole of the city, which most visitors miss. (B,D)

Day 9, Tuesday July 27: Prague

Prague is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Peter will take you for a walk through the Hradčany Castle complex, perched high above the city. You will stop by the Vlatava river in the hope of seeing Prague’s resident coypu population, cross the famous Charles Bridge, and end on the Old Town Square. Then enjoy some time for last minute shopping and lunch near there, before driving out to Aquapalace Prague for a wildly fun afternoon. As Central Europe’s largest water park, it boasts 12 massive water slides, artificial wave pools and a 450 metre long wildwater river. Return to Prague in time for dinner, and afterward you will form teams to round the trip off with Peter’s own treasure hunt on the Old Town Square. (B,D)

Day 10, Wednesday July 28: Departure

Depart for the USA. (B)
