Arrive in Madrid, meet your ACIS Tour manager and begin to explore this vibrant city with ease. This evening enjoy your first taste of authentic local cuisine with a classic paella dinner—a spicy tango of rice, seafood and vegetables considered by many as Spain’s national dish.
Begin the day's activities with an audio-guided tour of the Prado (skipping the lines with a timed reservation), Spain's renowned national art museum. Inside you'll discover the artwork of Velázquez, Goya, Raphael, Rubens, and Bosch. Even the 18th-century Neo-Classical building that houses the collection is stunning. Tonight we'll dine like the madrileños do during an authentic
tapas evening. Classic tapas dishes include items such as tortilla española, patatas bravas, bacalao, cheeses, olives or jamón. Finish off the evening at one of Madrid's most famous chocolaterías with a sweet Spanish treat—churros y chocolate!
Enjoy exploring more of all that Madrid has to offer today. Perhaps chat with locals at the Mercado de San Miguel or browse the Reina Sofia National Museum, which showcases works by Spanish luminaries such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. Alternatively, you may take an optional excursion by train to Toledo, including entrance to the city’s resplendent Gothic Cathedral and the Church of Santo Tomé. To cap off our day, we offer a sunset visit to the Egyptian Templo de Debod.
Journey by high-speed AVE train to Córdoba, a religious and cultural melting pot through the centuries. A local expert leads you on a “hidden Córdoba” walking tour featuring the stunning private patios and colorful balcony displays for which the city is known. Later, enjoy a
Moorish cuisine dinner that highlights the Arab influence on local flavors as you learn the features of this type of cuisine and why it’s prevalent in southern Spain. For an evening stroll, walk across the Roman bridge for a stunning illuminated preview of tomorrow’s tour—the Cathedral Mezquita all lit up for the night.
Start with an audio-guided tour of the Mezquita. Originally built on the site of a Roman temple, this cathedral with its signature striped arches has also served as a Catholic church and a mosque, symbolizing the city’s rich religious diversity. Later, travel by train from Córdoba to Seville, the city from which Ferdinand Magellan departed in 1519 for the first circumnavigation of the globe.
Warm up this morning with a guided
bike tour of Seville that showcases landmarks such as María Luisa Park, the city’s historic center and the riverside district. Then explore more of Seville as you wish on your own, perhaps visiting the immense Gothic Cathedral, the burial place of Christopher Columbus. In the evening you may choose to take a
flamenco lesson, followed by a dramatic performance of this passionate Spanish dance—by the same dancers who taught you the steps earlier.
Enjoy a day to discover more of your favorite places in Seville. You might visit the Santa Cruz neighborhood, snap a photo of the eye-catching Metropol Parasol or learn about the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929 at the Plaza de España. You may also choose to tap into your artistic side during a
fan-painting workshop taught by an expert instructor who explains the history and traditional ornamentation styles of this elegant accessory. Cap off your week and say adios to Spain with a pleasant evening paseo along the river to see the Torre de Oro and colorful Triana barrio.
