Depart from the USA.
Arrive in Berlin, meet your ACIS Tour Manager and begin to explore this eclectic and electric city. While Berlin was divided, Eastern and Western sections maintained separate opera houses and other institutions. Now the united city offers two of everything, and is known as a hub of European innovation.
This morning, a sightseeing tour with an expert local guide shows you some of Berlin's most important historical touchstones, including a portion of the Berlin Wall, the Holocaust Memorial, Potsdamer Platz, and the infamous Checkpoint Charlie. The afternoon is free for you to explore more of Berlin at your own pace. Perhaps take in Museum Island, the food stalls of Markthalle Neun or the paths of the Tiergarten.
This morning, we will head to Dresden, a city laid to waste in World War II, and begin to explore with a guided sightseeing tour. Among the highlights you'll see are the completely rebuilt Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) and the massive Zwinger Palace. Then continue to the town of Erfurt where you will meet your host family for dinner and begin your homestay.
After breakfast your host family will drop you at the meeting point from where you will travel by bus to a local high school or youth club for a cultural exchange
with German high school students. In the afternoon discover more of Erfurt on a guided walking tour. See the unique Krämerbrücke, a bridge lined with half-timbered homes, and the synagogue, one of the oldest in Europe.
Today's excursion takes you to Weimar where a guided walking tour around the historic center will bring its vast cultural heritage to life. A focal point in the German Enlightenment, it was home to writers Goethe and Schiller and later the Bauhaus movement's Gropius and Kandinsky. In the evening return to Erfurt for a final dinner with your host family.
Bid farewell to Erfurt and your host family before driving south towards Munich. Stop en route at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, a grim reminder of Nazi atrocities during WWII. After arriving in Munich, check-in to your hotel and get acquainted with the city with your tour manager.
Explore Bavaria's capital with an expertly guided sightseeing tour to sites like Marienplatz with its famed Glockenspiel, the Viktualienmarkt food and flower market and the surfers on the Isar River in the Englischer Garten. Cap off your day with a traditional German sausage dinner and Movie Night in Munich
. Head to the cinema like the locals do to catch a new release in German.
Today enjoy a full-day excursion through the scenic countryside to the Bavarian Alps. Begin with a visit to crazy King Ludwig’s fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein—literally the stuff of legends (and Disney dreams). The famous castle, with its many turrets and towers was opened to the public in 1886 and clings to the top of the surrounding cliffs. You may want to linger in this magical place, but we’ll press on to Oberammergau, whose residents perform the famous Passion Play only once each decade. Return to Munich for dinner and enjoy your final evening abroad.
