Tejo Lesson in Medellín
Connect with an important part of the Colombian culture as you learn to play tejo, whose long tradition in the country has led it to become a national sport. The origin of tejo is pre-Colombian—the native indigenous people used to play it as a ritual, long before Spanish arrival in the 16th century. These early adopters played with discs made of gold, and according to the legend they competed for the love of a woman. One had to throw a golden disc as close as possible into a golden ring located at a certain distance. Today’s tejo game includes gunpowder and the modern discs are made of metal. The ring is located in a corner filled with clay and decorated with papers filled with tiny amounts of gunpowder—this makes it the most explosive and funny game in Colombia!
